Installing lifts I believe to support access for all. The new timetable with an hourly all day service will conflict too much with the freight traffic so platform 2 needs to be accessible.

As it stands there is a local instruction for the 2 trains per day booked to use platform 2 to contact the signaller in advance and be replatformed with an agreed delay of around 5 to 10 minutes should someone require step free access - this isn't going to be tenable long term.

Had a feeling thats what they are doing but wasnt sure as there appears to be no obvious place on the main platform for the other lift

It also looks like there will be access from the housing estate platform 2 side of the station, not sure why they have put supports on the broken bridge steps

I wasnt aware of it going 1 train per hour, will this also cover trains before 9am and after 4pm as the line is closed then and on Sundays

The line isn’t closed anymore overnight, that went with the resignalling. The new EMR franchise has a requirement to increase services.

The line isn’t shut though - yes there’s no booked passenger trains but plenty of freight services now the line is open following the resignalling.

Yeah I was solely looking at passenger trains, makes it even more frustrating for a passenger when freight trains can run and passenger ones cant

I sometimes go to Lincoln but the situation does deter me going more often than I am forced to

This press release from Network Rail confirms:
Network Rail is installing lifts at Spalding station to provide step-free access over to platform two, making it easier for people to use the station. The work also includes putting more lighting on the footbridge and additional CCTV around the station.

The project is expected to be completed in June 2020.
