A pair of new maroon ADL doubledeckers heading down the M6 this morning.
No signwriting or vinyls, though the rear destination displays said "Arriva Bus". Seemed to be joining the motorway at J28 so presumably overnighted around Leyland.

Which Arriva unit has maroon buses? I've never seen that livery before

May not be Arriva. Destination units unlikely to be programmed until arrival at customer, but Hanover (or Mobitech) have standard pre-programmed lists. Might be a delivery driver with a sense of humour. Or maybe a new Arriva livery. Who knows?!!

Or a base livery for some dedicated service like a P&R but without vinyls??

First Bristol is currently receiving E400 City's in a dark red.....although if it's those, having Arriva showing is a mystery.....

I don't think anyone really knows to be honest, Gillingham is also due 13 new StreetDecks but everything has gone quite about them too, for all we know arriva may have cancelled the order but hopefully not.

Surely, nobody will have any definite information until Bamford actually restarts production (assuming he does).

I thought Bamford started production again on the 6th January or am i confusing it with something else?

Are they the new buses for Excel (Peterborough to Norwich)?

See http://fecx1news.blogspot.com/

(The article describes the press launch of the new ADL E400 City buses for First Eastern Counties. These are red and maroon single doored double deckers with a 9 litre engine, Lazzerini leather seating throughout, table or airline seating upstairs, USB and wireless charging points, phone holders and bell pushes at every seat and a generous amount of legroom. The area masking the stairs has a mural on each bus, each depicting different landmarks to be found on the route.
The mechanical design of the buses was completely bespoke, with a great deal of engineering and ingenuity to marry the Alexander Dennis E400City body with the Scania N250UD Euro VI diesel chassis. The first time this combination has been achieved. The red and burgundy livery with gold highlights was chosen as it respected the historical colour associated with 'Eastern Counties'.)

Martjin Gilbert (GNE) and Simon Dunn (Diamond) both have orders in for Wright Streetdecks and they have both said the first buses are expected to be seen around March/April time.

The article is wrong as these are not the first MMC City style bodies on Scania chassis, I believe that NCT has the first.

NCT ones are on a N280UD chassis

The chassis are identical as is the engine, the only difference is the BHP(250 vs 280) and the NCT ones are gas-powered so the NCT ones are still the first City style bodies on Scania chassis.

The article clearly states "...to marry the Alexander Dennis E400City body with the Scania N250UD Euro VI diesel chassis. The first time this combination has been achieved" as per the quote. It is not claiming that they are the first Scania/ADL E400City combo.

That's not the only difference - there's the rather significant difference in the gas versions having to be tooled around some rather hefty gas tanks at the back of the bus!!! Which is nothing like the diesel.
