Hi,

I find myself at Doncaster once again during my travels, and as always seems to be the case end up with a few questions that I hope someone can enlighten me about. Number 1, saw 67023 in platform 2 by itself, never seen a 67 before. Anyone know why it was there? 2, in the yard I saw what looked like the centres cars for a multiple unit but sandwiched between a virgin mk2/3 coach and an 08. They had Metro branding (yellow M on grey background) anyone know what they are and what they are doing their. Finally, was anyone photting a 66 that came through the centre road at about 17.55? If you were I saw you! :)

Thanks,

(This posting brought to you by the wifi on a EC 225, which is a first for me and quite novel)

Platform 3 is a through platform at Doncaster, was it in this platform or the bay platform? It is most likely the East Coast Thunderbird, which I have have seen stabled in the West Yard, bay platform P2 and the sidings at both the north and south ends of P1 on my travels to Doncaster.

The EMU coaches are the centre coach and one driving trailer from Merseyrail unit 507002 which is at Wabtec for refurbishment and accident damage repairs to the other driving trailer, this was the unit that "ran away" at Kirkdale last year.

I can answer the question about the 67. This is the stanby Thunderbird loco, which is there to rescue anty trains that may fail in the area. During the week East Coast have them stationed on standy at Kings Cross, Peterbrough, Doncaster, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

The works opposite the station is Wabtecs works. They are a company that does a lot of refurbmishment works on railway units and rolling stock. You saw two of the carriages from a 508 unit, th whole fleet of which is undergoing refurbisment at the moment

Not sure, however looking at the Depature board on NRE, in the next hour (21:20-22:20) there are 11 trains timed to depart, and thats on a sunday and not including freight!

how many trains do you get on average at doncaster per hour?

At least 2 EC stoppers in each direction
Hourly XC to Newcastle and Reading
Hourly TPE to Manchester and Cleethorpes
Hourly Northern stopper to Leeds and return
Hourly Northern stopper to Hull and Sheffield
Infrequent HT stop and return
Infrequent GC stop and return
Hourly EMT to Lincoln and return

And I swear i'm forgetting another Northern service with 142's and 144's that's normally on Platform 8...

So that's at least 14 tph plus Open Access and others...

As for freight I spent 7 hours last September weekday and saw around 50 freight from DBS, FL and GBRf...
