What is the currently delay repay claim processing time for Northern when the claim involves a normal single or return ticket?

Is it possible to claim delay repay from Northern in the form of a free journey pass, if you made your delayed journey using one of their free journey passes?

Around 20 working days at the moment for Delay Repay (although mine have tended to have been approved in 15), and I believe yes you can claim a free ticket from a free ticket.

I also often use my Concessionary Travel Pass issued by Merseytravel. As this includes use on trains I must start submitting a claim to Northern each time I am delayed 30 minutes or more and request a free ticket as compensation. Will be interesting to see if they pay out.

No point my claiming for a 15-29 minute delay so I wouldn't be entitled to anything as my ticket value is zero.

Received an email from Northern today advising they are posting out a free journey voucher in relation to a 40 minute delay I experienced when one of their trains broke down. I was travelling on an MCard and asked for the voucher as compensation under the Consumer Rights Act. Was surprisingly straightforward!

Definitely worth it!

Given the ongoing poor service from Northern that seems to be continuing - and having spent over an hour in the gales and cold tonight delayed - I am going to stick in a claim to Northern and see how I get on. I will request "free tickets" as the compensation given the value of my pass is zero. Even if they refuse, I shall keep claiming every time I'm delayed over the threshold now with Northern. If nothing else, it is a good way of gathering evidence of refusal to compensate for PTE/milti-model tickets which might be useful in the future depending on developments.....

If anyone has any recent successes - or indeed failures - with claiming on PTE/multi-model tickets though please could you share here? Thanks :)

I claimed with an MCard last November and went through the complaints process rather than Delay Repay. I also mentioned in my email I'd like to claim under the Consumer Rights Act and Northern sent out the voucher after around 4 weeks without quibble

That is interesting. So if they decline Delay Repay then could make a separate complaint/claim under the Consumer Rights Act.

I'd recommend trying that. Although I seem to remember Northern will only pay out if they were the cause of the disruption so it may depend on the reason why you're claiming.
