Now is not the time for cosy union agreements to take priority. Whatever part of "service disruption" is not happening at present.

Thing is... this wouldn’t change the situation much, if at all. There aren’t enough drivers to run the proposed reduced timetables that were supposed to come in this week... thus why they haven’t come in. Even the emergency special timetables are seeing cancellations because of a lack of drivers. Those drivers who are at work are often working right up to the legal parameters - so there’s very little scope for them to do overtime even if it were allowed.

And, of course, that’s still only half the story. LU Service Control isn’t immune to all of this either. No controller, no service - it’s that simple. Service Control can do overtime - and many lines were already running on overtime before the crisis - but you can only stretch people so far. No amount of politicking will magic new service control staff from thin air.

Tube staff are running as many trains as is possible, whilst also guaranteeing a service at all. Fact.

Not it seems that some people really care, but many transport workers are happy to do their bit but don't want to spend anymore time at work than they have to right now. On BBC London local news the mayor said that 10 London transport workers have died, 8 bus workers, 1 at LUL and 1 TFl.

There are people out there who either don't care about social distancing rules and others with the best intention find it hard to adhere to them because of confined spaces.

Additionally, at least one main line driver (LNER) has lost his life to covid.

Before we get back into( just like the numerous times on RF with RDW) the armchair keyboard warriors demanding that rail and bus staff should be at work 24/7 , just for once, just once try to walk in other people's shoes.

I’m a key worker (police officer) and for the duration of the emergency I’ve given up on the train and moved to the car for the following reasons:

- Parking charges have been suspended

- the train service has been reduced and I’m a bit worried about being in close proximity to others

- the car is now quicker and after a 12+ hour shift getting home quickly is a priority (and won’t be cancelled or delayed)

Thanks for your feedback.
