Had a run out to Great Yarmouth today, passing the sdgs near the station saw some Caledonian Sleeper carriages. Are they awaiting scrapping.
Not necessarily No, all the stuff at Yarmouth Vauxhall Sidings is owned by Eastern Rail Services. Some of it has started to go for scrap, while others have recently arrived there (eg ex Dalton Airfield and ex Dartmoor Mk2s).Had a run out to Great Yarmouth today, passing the sdgs near the station saw some Caledonian Sleeper carriages. Are they awaiting scrapping.
It's a Mk2 and no, several of the Mk2 / Mk3 fleet did receive the new livery while still in service.I too noticed these today but was confused because one of the old MK1 carriages had the new livery on it?? Was it a test print?

What is the silver carriage on the right destined for? It's a Mk2 and no, several of the Mk2 / Mk3 fleet did receive the new livery while still in service.
In short, well I'm not really sure. I'm sure ERS has some form of business plan for all their Mk1s, Mk2s and Mk3s, but so far most seem to have either been modified for filming then sent for scrap (eg 44015), bought for scrap (44089), sent to other places for filming (an ex Chiltern Mk3 at a Rugby Club in the Hertfordshire area) or sold on to LSL (3 Mk2 RLOs). So I'm not really sure to be honest! What is the silver carriage on the right destined for?
Former Chiltern Mk3 12017. The 4x Chilterns on site were only ever bought for their bogies, so most of them will eventually be disposed of after stripping of useful parts. What is the silver carriage on the right destined for?
Thanks. Didn’t realise that Chiltern had any spare carriages.Former Chiltern Mk3 12017. The 4x Chilterns on site were only ever bought for their bogies, so most of them will eventually be disposed of after stripping of useful parts.
Is my memory correct in thinking that Chiltern at one time also had an unconverted rake of mk3 stock that retained their original slam doors, if so could it possibly be one of those vehicles? Thanks. Didn’t realise that Chiltern had any spare carriages.
Got it in one! They had a single rake that were repainted but not converted, they were used for a while on services to Banbury I thinkIs my memory correct in thinking that Chiltern at one time also had an unconverted rake of mk3 stock that retained their original slam doors, if so could it possibly be one of those vehicles?
Indeed: it is a Mk2d brake open, originally a BFO (I can't recall whether they were reclassified as BSOs for sleeper service as they retained first class seating though declassified). Is that not a useful brake vehicle?
I think you may be confusing that with the Mk3 BFOs - the Mk2 BUOs were converted from Mk2e TSOs in 1999 for the NX operated ScotRail Caledonian Sleeper.Indeed: it is a Mk2d brake open, originally a BFO (I can't recall whether they were reclassified as BSOs for sleeper service as they retained first class seating though declassified).
Looks pretty tired though, as did most of the sleeper MK2 fleet in their twilight years.
