Hi,

A family member who uses Alnmouth reported today that a staff member at the station informed them that one of the signals in/around Alnmouth station had collapsed in the high winds recently thanks to the storm. Can anyone shed any light on this or have any details what has happened? Trains are currently having to utilise Alnmouth Wooden Gate Jct Up Loop to travel Southbound, so it appears the Up Main is blocked.

Many thanks for all your help.

A signal was reported as facing incorrect direction this morning, up on further inspection signal base plate was actually corroded and in danger of collapse.
Bi-directional working had been in place most of day up until about 1600ish when working via loop was introduced.
Signal has been removed and is being replaced today.
Full repairs will take place overnight, so UP services continue to use loop.

Many thanks for this explanation, sounds very serious indeed and no wonder the station was so busy today. Do they require any specialist equipment to repair the signal or is it just the signal head that will be replaced? I assume no need for a rail crane?

Managed to hoist out the old signal under a line blockage.
No rail crane needed
