Looking to get from Newcastle to Salisbury on 1st March. Looks like industrial action impacting LNER services, but also industrial action impacting CrossCountry to and from Edinburgh.

Are the CrossCountry services likely to operate but originate from Newcastle, or are they likely to be cancelled?

Is there any other route I can take to Salisbury?

Thanks for your help

Revised timetables are in place for LNER but not for XC.

Any XC that starts at NCL (eg 1035, 1236 to Reading) should be a safe runner.

Lumo (and Grand Central from Sunderland, less reliably) will be operating. The only alternative is Northern to Carlisle then Avanti to Birmingham/Euston.

All things being equal I would go with LNER, but anything will be crowded :(

All the morning flights to Heathrow that day with BA appear to be £92, bus to Woking, SWR to Salisbury.

Via Carlisle is not an option as Northern are on strike, all services withdrawn, on March 1st.

I'm travelling from Durham to Bristol on the 1st of March and the rail situation is so dire that for the first time in my life I am taking a British domestic flight (Newcastle to Bristol). Was £18 when I booked it but seems like prices have increased quite a bit since then.

It's a long journey, so not entirely unreasonable to fly, I've flown Aberdeen to London; Aberdeen to Bristol etc.

Looking at 387masteraces post. The lunchtime easyJet Newcastle to Bristol£75 then A1 bus to temple meads then train to Salisbury would also be competitive.

Can also fly Newcastle-Southampton then easy train journey to Salisbury (change at Southampton Central).

Not quick but Transpennine to Chester or Manchester area, Welsh Marshes to Newport and train towards Portsmouth via Salisbury is probably most scenic.

685 bus from Newcastle (Eldon Square) to Carlisle (via Hexham) for anyone wanting to travel via WCML maybe?
