Contactless PAYG - Sunbury/Shepperton branch?

This link has the DFT stating that stations on the Hampton to Shepperton SWR branch (as well as many others across the South East) 'would' accept contactless PAYG payments from December 2023.

The SWR website suggests that Sunbury station, which I intend to use, does not accept contactless PAYG - the TFL website makes no mention of this.

Does anyone know if this December 2023 timescale has been pushed out?

It was delayed to May 2024 about the end of November last year, after that DFT announcement.

It’ll probably be explained somewhere in the long running thread in the general discussion forum here, although it looks as if there was never a DfT formal statement, some TOCs sneaked it into their PR at about that time

It was delayed, but I don't believe a date was given - just "next spring". It's worth bearing in mind that spring lasts until June 20th.

You’re quite right of course, I was taken in by the current thread title… :D

It has been delayed enough times now that it's probably better to just take the approach it will happen when it happens!

Looks like it won’t be rolled out in time for this years Staines 10K in May then……I run that most years, in previous years I’ve gone to Hatton Cross and then a 203 bus, was looking forward to doing it by train on contactless this year.

Or that the second set of stations will go live for contactless before the first set.

I know that was sarcasm, but that wouldn't make sense in some cases - ie Sevenoaks to Tunbridge Wells before Dunton Green.

I guess to the layperson being able to touch in at Feltham and out at Reading would imply heavily that the use of the direct service is permitted when doing so. Of course, we know that's not correct, and why. But that doesn't make it seem much less absurd to a newcomer to all this.

It's now being said by TfL that it's been delayed until the summer!
