Rail replacement bus service didn't arrive, will I be reimbursed for my uber?

Last night I was going to get the 23:50 rail replacement service from Greenbank to Knutsford (service to Manchester Piccadilly). The bus didn't turn up (and neither did the Chester bound bus going at the same time). I ended up getting into an uber at 00:27 and the bus still hadn't arrived. I was stood at the bus stop since 23:25 and did not see anything resembling a bus, so am confident it did not turn up. How do I go about getting reimbursed for the uber. Is it just a case of writing a complaint letter, as there isn't a way of claiming for alternative transport through delay repay. There was no one else at the station, as it was outside of staffed hours and at this time there's no way of contacting Northern (who operated the service), so I did not receive permission to get this uber. I took the uber to Knutsford station and no further. Is there any legislation I should cite in my letter, as I would presume Northern will do everything to get out of reimbursing me. Also, would I be additionally entitled to delay repay as well as the reimbursement of my uber? Thanks.

I think you will just have to email Northern and ask what their policy is on this. I trust your Uber receipt / evidence has a time-stamp on it as to when you booked the Uber (not when it arrived) - this may be relevant.

As for delay-repay - yes, I believe you can reclaim although if you do separately via their App, it may make reclaiming the Uber more challenging. Perhaps include this in your email to Northern (Customer relations).

Good luck

As a minimum you are entitled to Delay Repay based on the time you arrived at Knutsford station (or the approximate time you would have done, had you gone to the station). Note that you have the alternative of claiming for a free single or return ticket, depending on the

The question would be whether you are entitled to be reimbursed for the cost of your Uber. As this was the last 'train' (replacement bus) of the day you would have been stranded if it had been cancelled. I think it would be reasonable to assume that if the bus had not turned up 27 minutes after it was scheduled, that it was not running. If Northern wanted you to assume otherwise I would expect there to be some information at the station to indicate that it was delayed.

There is perhaps some ambiguity in your claim for Uber reimbursement but I would be sufficiently confident that I would submit the claim and see what Northern say in response.

Ok thanks for both for your advice.

I got a response from Northern saying they have approved the refund for my Uber and are also giving me 50% of the fare back.
