A TfL-compliant dual door E300 was available at the time, I saw a general arrangement drawing. However, Stagecoach London preferred the Citraro based on their previous experience of the type.Stagecoach acquired a batch of rigid 12m Mercedes-Benz Citaros for London route 227 in 2012. I presume the route’s spec required full size single decks of a certain capacity, which Enviro 200s couldn’t meet? I think the Enviro 300 was still available then, but not sure I’ve ever seen/heard of a London spec one?
They did of course also operate 18m articulated Citaros in London as well, however I presume that fleet acquisition was heavily influenced by Transport for London.
I think it briefly appeared on the ADL website for a day and then disappeared.Apologies for veering slightly off topic here but didn't ADL announce at one point they were going to build the E200 on a Volvo B8RLE chassis for Lothian, only for that to come to nothing? If I'm remembering correctly, that would have been a proper replacement for the E300.
That would probably have been Stagecoach's heavyweight of choice if it had ever came to fruition.
My impression was that the E200, which was what one might describe as a "midi-bus", and the E300, which was a full-sized single decker, had both been replaced by the E200MMC, which is available in a greater range of lengths covering both categories.Ahh, yes I forgot that the E300 isn't available any more!
It seems silly that Alexander Dennis withdrew it without a full replacement but maybe the development would have been too expensive.
Are diesel StreetDecks and MCV-bodied Volvos no longer built?the only exception to this is a batch of 17 Enviro400MMCs however there isn't really any diesel alternative on the market elsewhere that would be suitable.
Are diesel StreetDecks and MCV-bodied Volvos no longer built?
Yes, but in the maximum length the E200MMC is available with the lower power engine (4.5L) with 6-speed gearbox, or the higher power engine (6.7L) with a 4-speed gearbox; it is not possible to get the higher power engine with the 6-speed box (apparently due to space constraints). Whereas with the E300 you could have both the larger engine and the 6-speed box.My impression was that the E200, which was what one might describe as a "midi-bus", and the E300, which was a full-sized single decker, had both been replaced by the E200MMC, which is available in a greater range of lengths covering both categories.
Volvo B5 is discontinued, hence why Lothian bought a load a couple of years back. Wrightbus still has a diesel Streetdeck listed on website
Indeed, which is why I didn't mention the ones that SPT ordered for the Isle of Arran in 2015 in my intital post.Quite frankly, Stagecoach have a lot of Optare Solos (both SR and non-SR variant) in their fleet…
