Am I right in saying that my Merseyside issues ENCTS pass is not valid on the 11 from Rhyl to Chester and I would need to buy a ticket?

I assume the cheapest ticket would be the £4.50 concession 1 Bus Day ticket?

I had heard that they are valid as long as the journey starts or ends in England but am I right on saying this only applies to passes issued on Cheshire?

No you can't use Merseytravel issued ENCTS passes on the bus in Wales crossing to England (i know this from trying to use my ENCTS pass on the 811 in Broughton, had to pay £2 as it is a Merseytravel contract route) not sure the rules on Cheshire issued ENCTS passes.

Straingely enough My Merseyside pass worked on the 2C at Wrexham despite it not going into England like the 2 & 2A after I forgot that I had a day ticket on me.

In general England / Wales cross border travel with ENCTS passes is subject to local arrangement and very messy.

From the Arriva website; https://www.arrivabus.co.uk/senior-travel

In general Welsh passes are valid cross border, but English ones are not and hence this offer.

English and Scottish concessionary bus pass holders can save on off-peak Arriva bus travel in Wales.

Use your English or Scottish concessionary pass after 9.30am Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and Bank Holidays to get great discounts on your Arriva bus travel. £4.00 Concessionary Day Ticket (£4.30 from 26 May 2024) £13.50 Concessionary Weekly Ticket (£14.50 from 26 May 2024)

In the Chepstow and Hereford areas on cross border routes, both English and Welsh passes are accepted on cross border journeys and the correct one for non cross border journeys, except the T7 to Bristol (Welsh TrawsCymru route, Welsh passes and may be Bristol issued only). This is courtesy of Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Councils.

Chester Council:- 3. The concessions listed in 1. and 2. are also valid on journeys that cross the Welsh boundary, providing the journey is unbroken and the pass holder boards or alights in the consortium boundary. (probably applies to Chester issued passes only)

TfW;- Your Concessionary Travel Card is valid on all eligible bus services that operate in Wales. This includes those commencing/terminating at points in England, provided that the cross-boundary journey doesn’t involve a change of bus in England.

This is definitely not complete, but I hope it helps. Ask the operators / councils for confirmation.

The cross border enhancement is available for anyone who holds a pass issued by the Cheshire Concessionary Travel Scheme. That includes Cheshire West & Chester, Warrington and Halton concessionary passes. Your journey must start or end in the concessionary travel area. In laymans terms and with the bus network as it currently is, you must have a concessionary pass issued by Warrington, Halton or Cheshire West and Chester Councils and your cross border journey must be unbroken and start/end in Cheshire West and Chester.

Many thanks for this and this was indeed what I was sold by a driver today. However when I've clicked the link above it isn't giving me the pricing details.

Thanks for letting us know that your day went well.

For future reference, if you are planning a trip, please put your ticketing queries in a single thread rather than starting a new one for each leg of your journey; it helps to keep the forum tidy.
