Good morning , I’m hoping someone can give me correct advice , I was looking at the Highland Rover map and description ( validity ) etc

On the map it doesn’t show Glasgow Queen street to Aberdeen direct and the description says it’s valid in two parts . Is it valid on the direct service between Glasgow and Aberdeen or not ? And can you pay the upgrade supplement to first class with the said Rover ?

Many thanks in advance for any help much appreciated

No it isn’t. Both the map and text are clear on what is valid. There are who rail ‘areas’, linked by a bus between Oban/Fort William and Inverness.

No, it wouldn't be valid on that service - it's valid on the West Highland line trains from Glasgow up to Oban/Fort William/Mallaig and on various lines radiating out from Inverness (including to Aberdeen and Aviemore but no further). You're supposed to get between the two parts by coach (or, if you're willing to pay the extra as it's seemingly excluded, ferry Mallaig to Skye and bus to Kyle of Lochalsh).

Thanks to you both for your replies that clears that up , I thought it wasn’t but was baffled as to why not as trains run direct between Glasgow and Aberdeen.

You could equally say that between Glasgow and Inverness. The point of the ticket is to offer travel over the more rural lesser used lines, not the main Intercity route between Glasgow and Aberdeen. There is of course the Spirit of Scotland Rover which does cover all routes, albeit at a higher cost, which you might want to consider, and is still (IMO) reasonable value, especially if with a railcard discount.

Yes I think you are right John I think I will do that as it represents excellent value and covers an amazing and extensive area , I’m mainly doing it to get the HST haulage in on the Powercars I haven’t travelled on yet . I also want to do Inverness for the scenery and have a drink at the bar on the station
