Broken wooden sleeper near Carnforth

I was on a Leeds to Morecambe train yesterday, which had to stop and wait for a few minutes approaching Carnforth.

Looking out of the window I saw the sleeper in the photograph below. Is that safe?

The photo shows a wooden sleeper that has split lengthways down the middle and the split filled with ballast. The two sleepers either side appear sound.

It is not in any way unsafe to have a broken sleeper, however if there are several in a row, it could lead to a Temporary Speed Restriction (TSR), according to posts in a previous thread:
A speed restriction on the East Suffolk line a few years back was due to damaged/rotten sleepers. A local P-Way inspector riding with me told me that it if more than 5 in any consecutive 10 wooden sleepers where in very poor condition then that would result in a TSR & it would then jump the queue for spot sleepering.
Not an urgent job to replace one broken sleeper, particually as those each side look sound and the sleeper is still supporting the rails vertically.....

That sort of thing should be noted when the line is patrolled by the PW gang (where they still exist) and be scheduled for future replacement.

If it's on the approach to Station Jn then the speed limit is 10mph!

The split probably passes through two of the four screw holes in each chair, significantly reducing its ability to hold the rail in position. However, the sleepers on either side appear to be sound.
