Bergen - Oslo Seat reservation

Hi,
I’m trying to purchase a seat reservation for 22/6/25 for Bergen to Oslo on entur however all of the earlier departures are sold out.

If I try to buy this at a staffed ticket counter will I have any luck or is the train actually completely full?

If so the VY website states in it’s FaQs that if you turn up without a reservation you can ask the conductor if there is any spare capacity and it is up to them if there is and allow you to travel. Has anyone had any luck with this method? I figure since seat reservations are free for first class pass holders they may book multiple trains for flexibility and not turn up to some of them.

You can try to look for partial reservations. Often, some seats will be free for part of the route.

Yes try Bergen to Myrdal and Myrdal to Oslo as separate reservations. There are also local trains to Bergen- Voss - Myrdal and Myrdal to Oslo that don't require reservation - if you don't mind the longer journey time. The conductors seem to be quite strict now because the the line is so popular in summer - in the past you could sit in the buffet car if all seats were taken.

Thats on or just after (weekend) of MidSommerAften=longest daylight day of the year. Anywhere in Scandinavia always a big party and holiday. And also over there the start of most for summer hols etc.

I purchased on the day at Oslo C to Geilo then Geilo - Myrdal (I had already booked the Flåm railway). You can buy without reservations at the machine on the day but it will be very expensive unless you split tickets and search for each stop on the line to figure out which stop is the cheapest to split at.

Phone up, that's what I did when needed reservations. Look on operator's website and you should find the number.

You can do it yourself nowadays on the Entur website.
You can but I found it doesn't always allocate correct seat, was giving me a reservation in standard with a first class interrail so if have a first class one the extra small effort in phoning is worthwhile. It's easy to do and I found person who was on the other end of the phone was extremely efficient.
Sometimes personal touch is what's needed.

I can't say what went wrong there (1st class full?), but you can also use the seat map.
First class wasn't full as guard let us in when we showed them the tickets.

I just noticed on entur.no that Standard is selected by default; you have to select Premium yourself. Maybe that was the problem? I do think that Premium should be selected by default if you have indicated a 1st class pass.

They must have changed their site as that wasn't an option. You used to enter what type of pass you had and it allocated you a seat. It didn't seem to link a first class pass to premium.

entur.no has been offering a choice of class for Internet reservations this year for the last couple of months at least. With a first class pass although Premium reservations are free trains which have Premium Pluss rather than Premium charge a supplement, NOK 500 on Trondheim-Bodo for instance. So you want to have the choice of Standard or pay more.

(edit: Off-topic, but trying to 1) get weather, 2) no trackwork around Trondheim, 3) a Pluss seat Trondheim-Bodo, 4) day of week when Wideroe Bodo-Evenes coincides with a bus now schools are off and 5) days when Narvik-Gällivare has at least one train running all to coincide is a struggle at present)
