I have been told that 37057s long awaited split box removal is to be done by the end of this year. Any further updates on this matter would be highly appreciated.
I wonder why the split box is going, when it's not such a common preserved feature.I have been told that 37057s long awaited split box removal is to be done by the end of this year. Any further updates on this matter would be highly appreciated.
Corrosion issues AIUI.I wonder why the split box is going, when it's not such a common preserved feature.
A pity though. A nose with no headcode panel (or discs) looks very bare.Corrosion issues AIUI.
37057 isn’t a preserved loco so that won’t have been a consideration.I wonder why the split box is going, when it's not such a common preserved feature.
I am guessing your "37065" is a typo for 37075 on the Keighley & Worth Valley which only has indicator boxes at the No 1 end. No 2 end is similar to the refurb 37s with a pair of marker lights in the style of 37501 37521 etc37057 isn’t a preserved loco so that won’t have been a consideration.
Split boxes will still survive on D6700, 37003, 37009, 36023, 37025, D6729, D6732, D6737, 37042, 37065, 37097, D6808 and 37109, so not exactly a shortage of them!
Correct, not the only typo in there either, both now corrected!I am guessing your "37065" is a typo for 37075 on the Keighley & Worth Valley which only has indicator boxes at the No 1 end. No 2 end is similar to the refurb 37s with a pair of marker lights in the style of 37501 37521 etc
Plus 40135.Split boxes will still survive on D6700, 37003, 37009, 37023, 37025, D6729, D6732, D6737, 37042, 37075, 37097, D6808 and 37109
not forgetting 45060 and 45149Plus 40135.
If you want to mention other classes you can add class 45 45060Plus 40135.
Between Colas/HNRC, LSL, WCRC and ROG, I’d say much more than a handful of 37s on the mainline.I for one am just thankful that a handful of these locos are still not only in existence today (ie in preservation), but also still operating on the national network.
45132 has the split boxes at one end, still sealed beam at the other. At least last time I saw it.If you want to mention other classes you can add class 45 45060
45149 is a centre box machine, single panel 1 end, split centre at the othernot forgetting 45060 and 45149
The irony is that the Headcode boxes were virtually rebuilt from new by HNRC in 2014Corrosion issues AIUI.
Corrosion repairs are seldom simple. From a railway perspective I know something about 458 issues encountered at Wabtec way back, and from other (transport) related themes I have first hand knowledge of corrosion/metal fatigue. Once the rot has gained a foothold, any repairs, however good, will always be chasing the rot so to speak, and will have to be reworked with ever increasing frequency. That frequency will however depend on the professionalism and (hence) resources put in to such repairs in the first instant. The irony is that the Headcode boxes were virtually rebuilt from new by HNRC in 2014
37610Only recently I have noticed a 37 on my old patch in blue/yellow, similar to large logo livery, but with a very small number
oh yes, its 132 isn't it with boxes at one end.45149 is a centre box machine, single panel 1 end, split centre at the other
Ah, thank you. 37181 in my language, last run behind same over Central Wales in 1977.37610
Would it not be done at Colwick by BRE - where 37099 was done ?I assume HNRC Switelsky will take on this work after 37421's F exam is finished?
I understand that the contract for Colas overhaul work has switched from BRE to HNRC.Would it not be done at Colwick by BRE - where 37099 was done ?
Ahh I see. Perhaps that might be the reason why the 60s have rocked up at Colwick for stripping. Diversifying ?I understand that the contract for Colas overhaul work has switched from BRE to HNRC.
Colas have an established relationship with HNRC, so it makes sense that they would switch their overhaul conteacts to HNRC. Which frees up Boden to support DCR and consequently provides UKRL with some breathing room before the Stadler locomotives (GBRf & others) come on stream.Ahh I see. Also, after the huge failure of 37099, I don't think Colas are keen on Boden....Colas have an established relationship with HNRC, so it makes sense that they would switch their overhaul conteacts to HNRC. Would it be an overhaul or just light maintenance? 057 has had years of maintenance recently and not sure it needs anything big..I understand that the contract for Colas overhaul work has switched from BRE to HNRC.
Not only 37099 - but I don’t have a direct relationship with Colas so I can’t go into any more detail. Also, after the huge failure of 37099, I don't think Colas are keen on Boden....
Yes, I’ve heard about that too. Things seem somewhat strained at the moment. Not only 37099 - but I don’t have a direct relationship with Colas so I can’t go into any more detail.
