Quite a morning at Marylebone, was meant to get the 0902 Silverset - however, 1H12 has broken down at Neasden Junction. (68014)

Looks like it couldn’t have broken in a worse place.

Absolutely nothing coming into Marylebone as a result obviously.

Staff have made PAs declaring this
significant disruption.

Originally at 9, was told that all the services wouldn’t run bar the 0902 - however 50 ish minutes later they announced it was going to be cancelled.

Brought my ticket literally 5 minutes before the first initial announcement was made - just my luck!!

Staff at MYB as usual trying their best though.

Pretty decent place to breakdown as the rescue loco only has a few hundred metres to get there from Wembley LMD although there are issues with that loco also...

1Z99 has now moved clear on OpenTrainTimes and 2C15 given the road to Marylebone so services should start moving again soon. Unfortunately there's probably going to be a lot of changes to recover back to time so anybody chasing specific sets/locos might have a hard time of it!

EDIT: And 2C15 has just reported passing Neasden South Jn, only the 134 minutes late.

1R25 the first one out of Marylebone after today’s delays - 11:02 to Brum.

Real credit to the staff for trying to keep people moving despite the circumstances.

Had this been 24hrs earlier, far fewer people would've been affected with the Tango Whisky Alpha Tango routine of many office workers since 2022. Glad they looked after passengers though.

A Mk3 set breaking down and blocking the Chiltern line seems to be almost a weekly occurrence now.

Anyone know if the faults are generally with the 68s themselves, or the coaching stock/DVTs?

Hopefully not the former as that means the Mk5s are likely to hit similar issues.

It'll be different 68s on the Mk5s; the ones TPE used to use, so hopefully it won't have the same issues?

And now we’ve hit the evening peak and Chiltern are reporting a freight train somewhere north of High Wycombe is now blocking the northbound line, so basically everything cancelled until that’s sorted out. I’ve bailed and on a GWR service to Reading then XC back up to Leamington Spa. When it rains it really pours in Chiltern land.

Looks like at least some will run up the Met to get back on at Princes Risborough.

One does sometime wonder at accounts of a "breakdown", towards the end of a lengthy run which has been conducted on time.

If experience of motorway patrols is anything to go by, the most common single cause of breaking down in the middle of nowhere is running out of fuel. Which is more a management issue than palming it off on a mechanical mischance.

Apart from of course, having nothing to do with this.
