Anybody know what's happened to Varamis Rail at the moment. They haven't ran for a day or two now.

Strange , might be due to the 321s having some kind of issue caused by the heat at the moment , Either that or their drivers are complaining about the conditions on the 321s due to the heat possibly ?

Maybe but not completely sure however I have noticed the paths have been taken off the system now.

The Birmingham-Mossend service has barely run during the last fortnight or so therefore before the current hot weather.might’ve become problematic.

It's probably easier just to say "I don't know" than make wild guesses...

Used to see the Mossend to Birmingham International service daily at work but not in recent days/weeks.

Really , What rules did Varamis violate to get a prohibition order ?
From what I heard it was something to do with putting 3 pantographs up at the same time (when rescuing a train) which they are not authorised to do. Should be no more than 2 when they run a train.

Does anyone know what kind of actions would be required to comply with this order, from a quick read of the ORR's archive of Prohibition notices (last updated in 2023!) most say complied, but most are engineering/maintanance rather than rolling stock (with the only one for rolling stock that I quickly found being Central Door Locking on the Jacobite).

The only units I ever drove as 12s were 325s on the ECML, I don't remember anyone ever saying you couldn't have 3 pans up nor do I remember anyone saying you could. This prohibition order must have been raised because of either a driver failing to adhere to the rules or Varamis failing to instruct their drivers adequately, it seems to me that a simple instruction reminder from Network Rail to Varamis would suffice, unless this has occurred before?

Looking back at the WCRC prohibition notice it didn't appear on the ORR website until about a month after it was issued. It will interesting to see what it says when it does appear because, as you say, most are resolved and it doesn't result in the permanent termination of a service.

Feel like this has the potential to be a much bigger story than our little thread here. See what comes out, if there's any truth to it. Certainly something up given the paths disappearing.

What will Varamis do now with their 321s and newly purchased 325s
Now that they have no work for them?

We don’t know that they have no work.
If they have been issued a prohibition notice, then if they implement the required corrective action, they will be able to restart the services.

What corrective action? Interlocks or just reminding their drivers not to do that?
It depends what the issue is. No-one has any firm information as to what the problem might be - there is nothing from either ORR or Varamis about it as yet. Anything else is rumour and supposition.

What paths have disappeared? They all seem to be present and correct on RTT:

MARK
Well there was a two week gap at least. Maybe there's nothing to worry about, but they were cancelled for a pretty long period en masse. Around the time they dumped their urban art exhibit in Carlisle for a couple of days.

Speaking of Varamis and their urban art on Wheels, they seem to make no effort to clean any graffiti from their 321s , many of them look quite tatty. Any other TOC I know cleans graffiti from it's rolling stock quite quickly but some Varamis 321s have been covered in graffiti for months now with no attempt at cleaning in sight. I can't speak for the internal condition of their stock but the external condition definitely isn't great.

I also recall one of the services failing at Crewe and blocking the fast line, which is actually the last time I remembered it running.

The offloading point at mossend is condemned so part of the reason they aren't running
Do you mean Varamis no longer like the mossend off loading point or was it vandalised?

I thought that they aren’t a Train Operating Company which carries passengers, but a Freight Operating Company. Does any FOC spend the money to regularly clean graffiti off of its load-carrying wagons, apart from when they’re re-painted, however seldom re-paining happens?
