Ticketer exit readers on Lynx / Go To Town buses

Said devices are generally indicative of a Tap On / Tap Off scheme. However their websites make no mention of it and I didn't see any such transactions yesterday, so either a TOTO zone will be introduced there in future or the readers are there for another purpose, whatever that is.

Luton Airport changes (travel desk / DART gateline)

The rail/coach travel desk at Luton Airport has been moved closer to the arrivals waiting area and the S&B ticket vending machines have been replaced with Worldline/Evoke versions, with another installed to join two existing W/E machines at the DART station. In addition the terminal-end gateline...

BML closed between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon (various routes) on 12 January

The Redhill / Quarry lines and branches to Reigate / Tonbridge / Caterham / Tattenham Corner will close for engineering works on Sunday, so no Gatwick Express service. London passengers will have the choice of a Southern 2tph Victoria-Gatwick service via Epsom and Horsham (calling at Clapham...

ULEZ boundary - Uxbridge Business Park

According to TfL's map (halfway down the linked page) their short portion of Sanderson Road is within the ULEZ. It's the sole access point for motor vehicles to Uxbridge Business Park, which is right across the boundary in Bucks, so I'm wondering why - assuming the map is correct - it's not...

https://www.intalink.org.uk/CATCHBUS24 3 Oct update: Unsurprisingly, all the free tickets have already been taken. 4 Oct update: Or so I thought - a 404 error appeared on the page yesterday, but it's now back up!

Trivia: Bus operators with Ticketer ticket machines, but no barcode reader

I'll start off with Sullivan Buses. I've travelled with a considerable number of operators across Hertfordshire and the surrounding counties, and so far I've not come across another operator whose buses are equipped as such.

    Arriva Kent & Surrey

Limited stop route 701 will operate between Maidstone and Bluewater every day between 1 and 31 August. There are no stops between Bluewater and the petrol station in Ringlestone - the suburb, not the hamlet - so if you like the 700 for its use of the motorway-in-all-but-name A2*, you'll love the...

What's the deal with this proposed "Heartbeat Network"?

I was searching for something else and came across this PDF (link) by happenstance. It's marked as a draft and lists a bunch of existing and "new" bus routes across the Chilterns and Thames Valley; no idea who compiled it (could be a random individual for all I know), but I can tell by some of...

PAYG caps beyond London zones (2024)

I'm not sure if this is a recent development, but contactless PAYG caps for journeys to/from stations beyond the zones are now listed on the National Rail site, including stations that TfL have overlooked for some time (link for comparison)...

    Hydrogen bus deployment challenges

It's been noted on this forum quite a few times now, so I figured it merited its own thread now that Route One have published an article on the topic. https://www.route-one.net/bus/fuel-supply-brings-challenges-for-more-hydrogen-bus-deployment/

Break of Journey on alternative Thameslink (North) routes to/from London

I may travel on Sunday 1 October with a Super Off-Peak Day Travelcard from Luton Airport Parkway. The Midland Main Line is shut south of Bedford that day (for engineering works), which means getting a replacement bus to Hitchin for Thameslink services via Potters Bar. Could I break my journey at...

Canopy / Access for All works at Luton

Over the next couple of years Network Rail are set to replace the leaking canopies on the platform 1/2 island and then build a new footbridge with lifts. It's not a wholesale rebuild (which quite honestly the station needs), but it's a welcome development nonetheless. In the past 40+ years the...
