There is no way the driver you know got his job with a drink driving charge on his record! No chance! Being convicted of a drink driving offence whilst currently employed in the railway is another story.I also know a driver who has this on his license and was extremely lucky to keep his job...

On your point of hacking apart 3 To make a 5 car 170 you would only be adding 2 of the middle coaches from 2 sets so hacking 2 sets apart to add 2 coaches to an existing 3 car unit. The remaining 2 driving cars could be coupled and used as 2 car 170’s.

I might be wrong here! once the E&G line was fully electrified and running with 385 then wouldnt this have created a surplus of 170’s which could have been used to strengthen services instead of giving them to Northern.

I believe it was repurchased from a FOC by the Scotrail/Network Rail alliance. Another rumour doing the rounds was it would be used as an electric traction depot once the wires are stretched to Perth from Dunblane. I think the trees may have grown back by the time this happens.

For a little while it seemed like Muirton Yard was going to be revived.Quite an amount of work was carried out to clear the vegetation that had grown during its inactive years. An unnecessary expense it may seem at the moment and more money wasted on a shambolic poorly managed project.
