As well as my rhodopi mountain adventure I took the day train from Bucharest to Sofia. 9 hours slowly trundling along through pretty boring scenery till you got to the Iskar Gorge. That was really impressive, towering cliffs on both sides and various hydroelectric installations on the river.

Ioved my trip on the Petite Train June. Open carriages and fantastic views. Sweltering at the bottom but definitely a bit nippy when we got to the top in the pyranese

Bay Horse, near Lancaster. Think the station was named after the next door pub, situated in countryside not really near any of the existing villages. Now anything within a mile has a Bay Horse address. No actual village just isolated farms and houses.

They need some grease when I head out of Carnforth heading towards Skipton. It's worse than the fingernails down the blackboard.

Had a little excursion up the Douro to Pinhao and then look a boat tour. Lovely old train and fantastic views of the river and vineyards. Was a bit hot but they kept things cool by keeping the train doors open

You defo need to do the old stock, particularly the open wagons if they are still running. The temperature change as you climb up towards the top is disconcerting, I was sweltering when I boarded but freezing at the top wishing I'd brought my jumper

Not used this train from Lancaster to Leeds for work meetings for the last year but was about once a month before that. I see the 6:48am ex Lancaster now only goes as far as Skipton. Hope they've got rid of the bouncy freezing Pacers. The two hour trip abourd that was dreadful
