    Rail & wheel design

Has someone has said, the contact area is very small on solid wheel to solid track contact. On cycle tyres because the area of contact is very small, tread is generally not needed on solid roads.

Hi I have a Northern off-peak rail pass, station adoption, are there any route planners that would allow me to just select Northern trains? Thanks

    Seating at rural stations

My local station usage has increased by much more than other stations, in part due to CCTV. I wouldnt describe it as rural tho.

    Disability Discrimination Act and stations

Morley has a bridge with steps to climb at one side, quiet a lot less passenger numbers. But when does it become reasonable to adapt a station for 300,000 users per year?

Cyclists.....using the tracks as a short cut.

If it was in the Sun, I wouldnt believe it. Why would anyone carry their bike, when they could walk or ride it it the side of the track. There are lots of anti-cyclists around.

    online vs on train

I was thinking about going today, but it now looks like it will be tomorrow. I was reading that you can print your own tickets, but I dont think that Northern allow it. My local station, Morley, has no collection points, so printing the tickets would have been usefull. Same day return, with ff...

    online vs on train

Hi When I search online, I come up with a price for Leeds to Scarborough at around £26 for 1 adult and 2 children, its for tomorrow. How do I find out if its the same price to buy at the station?

    Fuel duty?

I am surprised that train transport pays the full fuel duty, the fuel duty rebate is set at 61% of the tax, but I believe it only goes to local bus transport. It has recently been reviewed. It does seem daft to subsidise public transport, only to tax it.

Guardian Article Showing How Busy Each and Every Station in the UK Is

Hi My local station, Morley has shown a 6% increase in usage, most other local stations are slightly up, with the exception of Wakefield, posibly due to recent improvement works. Perhaps the figures show a nationwide increase in usage? I assume that they cannot be wrong, as over 6,000 visit per...

Penalty Fares do not apply when travelling from Meadowhall station.

Does that mean that you dont need to buy a ticket at the first available location? Thanks for your replies.

Penalty Fares do not apply when travelling from Meadowhall station.

Hi Why is this, Meadowhall has a ticket office and automated ticket machines, I have not come accross this before.

    Morley Closure and Cottingley Question

There were no trains for a time today, there was a replacement bus service. There was a large workers cabin parked down there too, and some vans blocked Station Road because they did not leave enough room for a large vehicle to pass. https://www.facebook.com/groups/229841590470405/

    Morley Closure and Cottingley Question

The planned new housing close to Morley station has got the go ahead; but the footpath close to the station, that could have been turned into a thru road remains a footpath. So Morley train station will remain in a cul-de-sac, so a bus link road is less likely.

    Morley Closure and Cottingley Question

There is Station Rd, it gets used now, not sure how far up the road the cars park. That is why they are adding more spaces to the car park, but it still is unlikely to be big enough.

    Morley Closure and Cottingley Question

Not heard anything; the notice says resurfacing, improve drainage, new access footpath, better lighting, new bridge (about 100yds up the line I think) and slightly larger car park. I have searched online and I cannot find anymore info, and I dont think the notice has been there very long :(

    Merseyrail Guard on Trial

I understand that she drank alcohol at someones house, and then went on a drinking session at local pubs? If I got a 16 year old blind drunk, so that she was unable to make rational decisions, if I then allowed her to walk home accross a busy road, I am sure I would be held responsible in the...

    Merseyrail Guard on Trial

It was interesting that the judge said Mcgee was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and depression; perhaps this could result in it going to appeal and him having his sentence reduced by saying that had he been of sound mind he would have pleaded giulty?
