    Leicestershire And Derbyshire Yeomanry. I was on the Grampian Highlander railtour (RESL) November 16th 1984 where it exhibited thrash substituting for D200/40123 and was withdrawn immediately after. So its last ever working.

    That was the first Peak I had haulage behind. June 1972 on the Thames Clyde Express between Settle and Carlisle. Great days. But to answer the question posed, I have no idea but in later years did think it was slightly odd too.

    This was rife in the 1980s when rare locos turned up. Usually the operator RCTS/RESL etc especially Dale Fickes just asked for a couple of quid. I was next to him when he did that for The Plant Invader

    Exactly. I am not knocking the technology, but clearly we should be quite a bite off mass deployment of the technology in remoter places such as villages etc,.

    Well even though trial holes spark interest nothing is concrete so everything at the moment is of a speculative nature. I am sure the main thread will be unlocked when/if something more concrete and official occurs or gets announced.

    For all these reasons easily the WCML for me. I still have a UK home that backs onto the WCML 4 miles north of Preston at the start of the Barton loop.
