Worst examples of BR era "vandalism"?

Northampton Bridge Street was architecturally a nice building but was demolished, perhaps understandably as the line was closed to passengers. Wokingham was another good building lost in 1973 and replaced with some nasty prefab buildings however an interesting footbridge remains (grade II listed).

Grabbing at straws here, but was that the Alice who's father was a friend of Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carol) and was the inspiration for Through the Looking Glass after he had taken the family on an outing and made up some stories for the children? (I was in Oxford at the weekend so heard the tale).

    Didcot Steam Movement 22/2/24

Thanks, that makes sense. I couldn't imagine them traveling at speed to some distant location. So airbrakes can be through piped, I thought the steam loco would have vacuum piping?

Danger UXB! Plymouth to Liskeard and Gunnislake cancellations 23/02/24

The RN bomb disposal teams cover certain areas and the Army cover others. Sometimes the Navy pass the buck like happened in Exeter recently, as the Army are better equipped for certain scenarios. Unfortunately it went a bit wrong and a fair bit of damage was done.

    Didcot Steam Movement 22/2/24

I was at Didcot yesterday and witnessed a GWR 2-6-2 tank loco being moved off towards Oxford sandwiched between two class 66s. Anyone know where it was headed? I would also be interested in knowing the technical details about how such a consist is braked.

    GWR 150 celebrations

I remember some of the GW liveried 47s and the 50 appearing on the Network Expresses in 1988/9. About ten years later they painted a class 60 into GWR livery for an OOC open day which I attended. I'm not sure how long the locos stayed in those colours.

    Milling Unit at Reading

I would be interested to know about the machines that rolled into platform 7 at Reading on Tuesday. They looked fairly new and were in NR yellow with "Milling" written on the side. It was a German sounding name starting with L. Is this the same as a rail grinder or some other process? Any...

    Redex

I started using Redex in a previous car when the performance was getting poorer. After a few months the engine developed some problems and I took it in for repair. The dealer spotted the Redex in the boot and advised me not to use it (in spite of the claims on the bottle it was suitable for...
