What kind of an enthusiast are you?

Fairly casual. I like to travel, and must have been over at least 3/4 of the network. I will nearly always know what class I'm travelling on, but not the number. I was a spotter back in the 80/90's, at the moment haven't done anything rail related since October, apart from popping on here a...

EMR 180 Sat down at Luton Airport Parkway

Passed one heading southbound on the M1 yesterday on the back of a low loader (somewhere between Sheffield and Nottingham)

TRIVIA: The biggest settlement with a passenger line but no station

Not the biggest but Royal Wootton Bassett. On the main GWR mainline just after Swindon. Population in 2011 was 11,385. Will be higher now.

Women's FA Cup Final at Wembley- travel home.

You will get on the 17.07 with no problems. I use Wembley Stadium starts often. (8 times this year after England games) there will be a queuing system in place. It works well.

Trivia - abandoned railways with intact track

I remember on the odd times of going to Gillingham for football there is a short branch from near the station which I expect went to down to the docks. Over the years it's become more and more overgrown.

Which leisure based journey are you looking forward to after lockdown?

A trip over to the Isle of Wight to ride the ex District line tube trains which are coming. Also looking forward to going back to to London for trips.

Have you ever been mistaken for rail staff, or helped those less familiar with the network?

A few years ago I was in London coming home from a business trip. I was at Victoria tube station and was approached by 2 ladies wanted to know about which route they should take a the line was partly closed. I was actually able to help them and showed them on the map. I was wearing a blue...

Classes that came and went without you ever travelling on one?

I rode on my first 332 in September this year, looks like I won't ever get a second trip. I only went on the Class 91 about 3 times. Twice in 1990 when they were new, and once about 5 years ago. Never went on a 460 before they were rebuilt, and never went on a APT before there early withdrawal...

Trivia: long distance direct trains by wildly different routes.

Oxford to London, either by GWR via Reading, or Chiltern via High Wycombe. If you count that as long distance.

    Shortest-lived loco/train in the UK?

Class 460 only lasted 12 years in it's intended form. I know some are now used in other units.

Trivia: Nearest station you haven't used?

I've yet to use Worcester Parkway which opened about 6 months ago. It's about 25 miles from me. I've never boarded a train at Pershore which will be 20 miles or so, but I have been on a train which has stopped there.

Extended bridges which have seen very few trains

I know there a bridge built over the M50 when it was built in the 1960's to carry the railway from Tewkesbury. It seems the railway closed when the motorway was only a few months old and the bridge was unused until being knocked down about 7 years ago. Some photos of it appear here...

Channel 5 Worlds Most Scenic Railways

It was under the same name, and was only shown on 1st November last year.

Channel 5 Worlds Most Scenic Railways

It would have been played backwards. It's difficult to film without having the expense of multiply film crews. The same reason the so say same train jumped from being in Scotrail livery to being in First Great Western blue.

    Cheltenham Racecourse connection?

For the short term at least more trains need to stop at Ashchurch, although now with the limited service the car park is still full most days. I live in Bishops Cleeve, and I use either Evesham or Ashchurch alot more than Cheltenham Spa as both are quicker to get to even though Cheltenham is...

    Cheltenham Racecourse connection?

I'm reading it that a mainline station will be built where the current Cheltenham Racecourse heritage station is now. Cheltenham race course already has 1000's of parking spaces most of which are only used on race days. Cross Country wouldn't call there, but the Transport for Wales, and GWR...

    Cheltenham Racecourse connection?

In theory it's an excellent idea to create a Cheltenham Parkway station, as Cheltenham Spa station is often terrible for parking at. It would also be great for Cheltenham races, and would connect directly to the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire railway. I can't see it ever happening even...

    When Posh People Trespass

2 hounds got killed the other week on the line between Swindon and Bristol Parkway.

Bristol Temple Meads to Stansted? 252 miles by train via Birmingham. 160 miles by motorway and shorter as the crow flies.
