Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

That’s caused by a murderer, not by DOO. Same happened on SWR in 2019. Darren Pencille: Lee Pomeroy Guildford train stab attacker jailed for murder https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-48967618

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

As a regular traveller on the New Guildford line, I can speak from experience when I say that the lack of air-con feels like torture in the summer, and it’s disappointing that the 701s will displace air-con stock on the Windsor lines before the 455s. You can work around the lack of toilets, but...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Don’t know if this idea has come up before, but if Crossrail 2 were built, these would probably be the trains to serve it. That could inform the door alignment decision, with platform-edge doors in the tunnels requiring consistent alignment.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

It's a shame the Windsor lines seem likely to get them first. They already have air-con on that route. We're sweltering over here on the New Guildford Line! And paying the same, I might add..

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Isn't the driver in a better position to know if that has happened, than the guard? (Or, at least, they'll be the first to know). Indeed, maybe the guard having to confirm the train's position before releasing the doors is precisely because they can't be certain, with only a side view onto the...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Let's not forget how inter-linked demand and fares are. I used to be a regular commuter, and am now an occasional one. I have quite a bit of discretion as to how often I commute, and cost is a big factor. If fares were lower, I'd go more often. I enjoy working with my colleagues in person...

SWR Weekend Super Off Peak + Travelcard restrictions

I am planning to travel with my daughter (aged 12), and a Friends & Family Railcard, from Weybridge to Waterloo, then on to Leicester Square by tube, and back, this coming Saturday. Outward around 14:00, returning around 17:00. I am aware of the strikes and changes to train times. Journey...

    Bookham - Brighton via Guildford?

Indeed it doesn't... with Bookham as the starting point. However, I just tried using Leatherhead as the starting point instead though, and my routing seems to be allowed by the journey planner for that journey. Which, I think, answers my original question, since Bookham is the first station...

    Bookham - Brighton via Guildford?

Thanks, and my apologies. I edited the original post with full station names now. It's the bit that says that you can't pass through a station that is a routing point on your way to intersect the next map that I didn't see anywhere.

    Bookham - Brighton via Guildford?

Can any routing experts see a reason why a journey from Bookham to Brighton, on a 'Not Via Clapham Junction' ticket, should not go via Guildford? I am using Leatherhead (LHD) as a routing point, and maps DK+XB, which intersect at Guildford (and also at Dorking Group). Dorking looks obvious as...

    CrossCountry NCL-GLD 22/10/11

Thanks for the replies and my apologies for the many faux pas (wrong forum, using abbreviations). I promise to do better next time

    CrossCountry NCL-GLD 22/10/11

Anyone have a clue why the 17:32 XC NCL-GLD seems to be (according to journey planner) curtailed at BHM this coming saturday 22/10? There's no engineering works or timetable alterations posted that would explain why it won't run through to Guildford. (Perhaps it will - heaven forbid that...
