Is ‘train station’ replacing ‘railway station’ in UK passenger rail terminology?

It is certainly becoming much more prevalent. But while it annoys the traditionalists, it's actually a more accurate term. After all, you dont go to catch a bus from the road station do you?

    National Train Driver Day

ooh, does this mean everybody gets paid a ridiculous extra amount for working on this day, as its Sunday (or, a normal day for most working people these days....)

Is the Heathrow Express a viable, worthwhile service?

I dont think theres any shortage of paths in and out of Paddington. When the IETs were launched, GWR had plans for lots of extra services, all of which had paths available, but the plan was abandoned largely due to the drop in passenger numbers after Covid.

EMR MML services on Sundays too crowded - what should be done?

Sundays are similar on GWR services in and out of London. Most services full and standing, First Class full of people without First Class tickets. I only travel on Sundays if Im doing an All Line Rover. Next time, I will avoid London on Sunday, far too much hassle.

Which specific train journey is the most profitable in the UK?

this is some clever outside the box thinking here. On similar logic, even if it is a passenger train, surely we should be mainly thinking about Open Access services, which are by their very nature designed to return a profit. Unlike all other services....

Had to break through unmanned barriers at Burgess hill tonight

I cant believe some people are criticising OP here. If you are being prevented from exiting, and have a valid ticket, then you are entitled to find alternative means of exiting. As long as youre not vandalising the gate or anything like that. I recently did an All Line Rover, which of course...

    GWR the day after strikes

GWR to and from London on Sundays is usually a farce, regardless of whether there have been any strikes. If there is any other way you can make this journey, then explore that option.

TRIVIA: Examples of train refurbishments (past or present) that were a step up from the same train's previous interior

although it was fairly recent, the GWR HST refurbishment when they put leather seats in 1st Class was a massive step up

Class 165 on service to Great Malvern

absolute disgrace! if the right train isnt available, they should cancel the service and leave everyone stranded rather than trying to do their best! Just like they should cancel services that are full and standing if they cant operate the drinks trolley....

    Routeing Through London to c2c

many thanks for that! I found the CO and TS maps, which led me to think it should be ok. But, in actual fact, the Routeing Guide was perhaps simpler to use than I had assumed, which made me think I might have missed something! Anyway, somebody needs to tell the Journey Planners about this...

    Routeing Through London to c2c

A quick question on routeing, since I am not sure if this is valid. I have checked the Routeing Guide online, but its a bit complicated isnt it? Anyway, I am travelling from Weston-super-Mare to Chafford Hundred lakeside. Getting to London is easy. Its getting through London that throws up a...

How the term "rail replacement bus" is viewed.

    Workington bridge closed? (29/02/2024)

Would HS2 have saved money by bringing in a company like SNCF to build the line to their pre-existing designs?

I refer you to the new nuclear plant at Hinkley Point. Being built by EDF (a French company) using existing designs. To save money. The budget has doubled. As has the time scale.
