    Leicester Station revamp

Think it's the building where the BR regional admin office was. Where I started my career back in 86!

Class 80x driving question (possibly others too)

On the 360s, where we are allowed to do 110mph north of Bedford, it's perfectly acceptable to let the limiter do it's thing, and it does it well, with no speed creep even going down Sharnbrook.

Class 121 DMU Bubble car "Flora"

I'm afraid I can't personally answer your question, but if the inside was anything like the one we had for the Nottingham resignalling diversionary route learners, then "Flora" would be a most appropriate name for it. David Bellamy would have loved all the weird things growing out of every crevice!

Is this the fastest sub-1hr from London

A lot harder to do now when you catch up with the Corby most of the time.

Is this the fastest sub-1hr from London

Not booked for it, no, but doable if the planets align.

Is this the fastest sub-1hr from London

You can do St Pancras to Leicester (99miles) in just under an hour non stop if you get a clear run, a good set, and no speed restrictions.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

I believe it was Andrew Adonis himself who said that the MML was "Not a priority". 1704329255 Mk2s and a 45 are the absolute pinnacle of frothability!

    HST cab protection

Cast iron, not to be confused with forged iron, is quite brittle and prone to shattering on impact. A healthy tree trunk, large or small, will have a degree of flexibility that resists shattering, and if the trunk is large enough.... Iron or wood, both would certainly ruin your day though.

    HST cab protection

The Driver (A personal friend) survived due to the good fortune of the bridge contacting the unit below solebar level, but he still sustained life changing injuries. The bridge was made of cast iron which, being more inclined to shatter on impact, may have been more forgiving than than a thick...

Which single-span footbridge crosses the most tracks?

All I can think of off hand, is the footbridge at Crewe South Jct, which carries the walking route over the main lines to Crewe Carriage Sidings, that crosses five tracks in a single span.

Sheffield to Chesterfield disruption today 15/12/23

For Train Managers yes, but for Drivers only Derby.

    Sheffield signalling query

Unfortunately, if you're more than a few mins late by Harpenden, you'll be up the backside of a Thameslink until at least West Hampstead.

Are windscreen wipers on trains any good?

In EMR land, the wipers on the 222 fleet are a pain. Noisy and squeaky, with the blades tending to wear more in the drivers line of sight, leaving you with the sight of a semi-circle of insects and pigeon goo all the way. At least there are still long handled brushes available at Derby and...

    EMR Class 360's

Where is the evidence that staff are being negligent? Problems with the maintenence regime do not imply negligence, and the front line staff do their best with the resources and knowledge they have.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Would Derby's lathe be able to be modified to remedy this in preparation for the 810 fleet, or will a new lathe be required do you think?

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

On the contrary. I think it makes absolute sense to do the tests in the worse adhesion conditions you can get.

    ABCL Stop boards

On EMT when I worked out of Notts this was discussed at length after a few incidents on Eastcroft, and the conclusion was comply with the Stop Board first, before accepting any other handsignal. Primarily to give time to confirm that a handsignal applied to you, and not another train in an...

    ABCL Stop boards

As far as I am concerned, a stop board means stop first, and then comply with the instruction underneath. Drivers have been charged with Cat A SPADs for not doing so.

MML: urgent repairs to the track taking place at Braybrooke

The picture doesn't really do it justice. When I went over it yesterday there was also a noticeable kink in addition to the dip. 20mph emergency speed restriction on, but looking at it I slowed even further to 15mph and it was still rough.

    MML Electrification: progress updates

I'm fairly sure it's GBRF Drivers doing the testing, certainly at Old Dalby, and more than likely on the main line i'd have thunk.
