    Trainee drivers Freighliner HH

unfortunately the size of the company is irrelevant. roster clerks control the overtime. certain depots drivers will work over 35 hours week in week out and walk away with a nice bonus. it is possible tho that due to lack of route knowledge or other circumstances new drivers could be in front...

    Trainee drivers Freighliner HH

At the Moment the holiday entitlement is 36 days, the move to reduce this to 32 (and other things in the pay deal) was voted out. not sure about the 52k deal its a new one on me, unless you mean the first offer which was purely a volunteer basis only. there are some perks, with freight you get...

    Signing routes

In a nut shell, YES. Everything on the route. Stations, Dead ends, Loops, signal routes (for the ones you dont want to take) speeds and in any eventuality any route you could be signalled. Especially important on multitrack lines stations and loops/yards.

    FGW train stranded at Pewsey

A-driver, I think you are wasting your time mate. As for Crisis management, Jesus, its the railway and here we have some one saying D and E were not being carried out. I am sure I read that the driver and then subsequently the fitter were in fact trying to fix the fault. You see its not...

    FGW train stranded at Pewsey

Now I might be wrong and opening a can of worms, but I, like the others on here who work on the railway would know that when someone suggested putting time and effort into an evacuation plan so early the answer would be: why, it will be moving again soon? / Trains break down everyday, its the...

    FGW train stranded at Pewsey

Interesting thread. I have a question and I genuinely want to know. Can the brakes of a power car be isolated (I don't sign HST) if so it could have run at reduced speed to next station or whatever the FGW contingency plan Is?. sorry I am only a freight driver and we just isolate wagons with...

Railway subsidies: Worth it or not?

I am sorry but do you have a dislike for bus drivers? this is a subject I can speak about having worked as a Bus driver for 14 years before my railway career. Firsty there is no comparison at all. two totally different jobs. I was interested in buses when I started in 1987. Bristol VR...

    Trainee drivers Freighliner HH

I would just like to make a point about location. now this is only my opinion and not backed up by any info I have received. Doncaster depot is a satellite depot to Ferrybridge. a lot a ferry drivers want to move there and find it difficult for reasons unknown to me. thus the reason drivers have...

Drax Power Station and rail deliveries of coal and biomass

The ex National Power Wagons (JNA? unsure TBH) have been re bogied and are now HKA I think. the national power adventure was proven to be a way to reduce costs from the then EWS flow. it reduced EWS prices and Nat Power sold up.

LBC reporter checking on train drivers

I recall coasting through a station with my seat back quite reclined. I was relaxed running on greens and had my hands finger locked behind my head. I was totally awake and aware of my surroundings. I got the 'see me' at the end of my shift. lady reported train passed through station driver...

    100MPH MK1 Coaches

That is my point about the accidents in my previous post, especially the Stafford crash. I believe either the AWS was reset, prior to the accidents happening such then, that the brakes did not get applied at a time when it should have done to prevent the accidents from happening. If there...

    100MPH MK1 Coaches

The driver safety device kicks in when the pressure on the pedal is released (or vigilance not reset). ie when the driver is dead or incapacitated. nothing to do with any other system in place. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- if the driver did not react to the AWS then brakes...

    100MPH MK1 Coaches

I accept that TPWS would/could have prevented possibly all of these instances but that is not the dead mans handle nor are any of the above driver falling asleep. How many more is many more as you keep saying. As your original post speculates many deaths attributed to drivers falling asleep and...
