Langley (Berks) to Tottenham Court Road – best fare

Thank you for your helpful replies. I am not familiar with ticket purchase in the area. At least for now I can buy a through ticket from an NR station to a TfL station and obtain a railcard discount, all with cash at a staffed booking office.

Langley (Berks) to Tottenham Court Road – best fare

I live outside the London area but plan to make a one off return journey on the Elizabeth Line from Langley (Berks) to Tottenham Court Road on a Saturday in October. I have a National Railcard, which is also loaded onto my Oyster card. I note from this forum and various fares websites that...

Crwys Road station doesn't appear to be on the site of a former station

In the late 1950s there was a builders' merchant on or near Crwys Road that had a siding on the west side of the Rhymney line near to the Crwys Road overbridge. It would have been served by the "pick up" goods service that delivered primarily domestic coal to stations such as Whitchurch. I...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

This is probably in connection with the controversial plans to build a replacement for Velindre Hospital on a greenfield site "Northern Meadows" immediately to the south west of the old trackbed where the line went from Coryton to Tongwynlais and beyond. Access for construction traffic would be...

I’d appreciate some information please from members with local knowledge or recent use of this or other TfL car parks. I live outside Greater London and plan to use the NCP car park at Ickenham station overnight whilst staying in central London, using the underground on the first day and...

Oyster card after expiry of associated National Railcard discount

Thank you to both of you for your prompt and helpful replies. You have saved me going round in circles trying to find this out on a TfL website. Also I can be confident I have a valid ticket when there is an on board check.

Oyster card after expiry of associated National Railcard discount

I have an Oyster card which I use when I am in London due to its charging me the cheapest overall fare for multiple journeys. Until recently, I have had a National Railcard attached to the Oyster card to give me National Rail discounts on my Underground fares. After each renewal of my National...

Trivia: Stations where Public Rights of Way (PRoWs) present[ed] an obstruction to gating

Castle Cary's footbridge joining the platforms also serves the public footpath that runs north from the village itself to Ansford Bridge on the A371. I noticed at one of the Glastonbury festivals a few years ago that some "zoo fencing" had been erected near the exit from the up platform steps...

Hillingdon, Ickenham and Hounslow West station car parks - how full?

Thank you for your prompt and helpful replies. The car park at Ickenham was about half full mid morning yesterday, so no problem finding a space. After I entered my vehicle registration, the parking machine offered me a choice of cash or card and my £5.50 covered a stay up to 04:30 this morning.

Hillingdon, Ickenham and Hounslow West station car parks - how full?

I am planning to use one of these London Underground station car parks on Monday 30 December, arriving mid morning. How full is each likely to be at that date and time, please? I have found other details on NCP website entries, but they are silent about when in the day they are full up.

Validation of Oyster card after > 3 years’ non use

When I travel to London, I usually include a one day travel card in my return fare from my National Rail station, which is well outside London. On my next visit to London I shall be staying overnight and have not been able to find a National Rail fare that includes any travel on the London...

    Faster London to Cheltenham trains

It's a good point, but do be aware that if you change at Swindon to or from one of the remaining Cheltenham shuttles you may be using a Paddington service that does not stop at Didcot, especially if there is disruption.

Bromsgrove station - parking in the vicinity

Thank you for your prompt and comprehensive reply. I turned up after the morning peak yesterday. I heeded your advice and headed straight for the section of car park past the station entrance. For my future use I note that the parking fee is just £1.50 for the day on Saturday or Sunday. I...

Bromsgrove station - parking in the vicinity

I plan to take a ride up the newly electrified Lickey Incline shortly on my way to a day in Birmingham. I have a few questions about parking where I would appreciate members’ answers, please. I see that there is car parking at the new Bromsgrove station for £3 per day. On Mondays to Fridays...

Request stops: How do you stop the train?

Some lines in Switzerland have had this system for some years, one is on a narrow gauge line in the Jura region if I recall correctly. Pressing the button switches on a suitable signal at the lineside for the driver to see. It also means that the system works in the dark.

Oxford Parkway TVM for multiple tickets – how to pay in one transaction

A few months ago I successfully bought walk on tickets for two passengers from the ticket vending machine (TVM) at Oxford Parkway, paying for both tickets in one transaction. When I tried the same thing recently I explained to the staff hovering near the TVMs what I wanted but I ended up having...

Portsmouth & Southsea to London U1 - FOR

Slightly off topic but on a related subsection of this route, I went from Winchester to Portsmouth and Southsea and back a couple of years ago. NRE gave me routes via Southampton or Botley each way for the same day return fare. I actually went via Southampton (as this was the next service) each...

    GWR Taking me to court!!

It looks like the OP usually used the bus but from her initial account she was in a hurry due to being called in on her day off and required to open the shop, and the train would be quicker.

On and off the [Cardiff] Valley Lines - BBC Radio 4 Wednesdays 14/21/28 March 11:00 to 11:30

The write up in Radio Times sounds good. There is even a colour photo of an ATW 158 unit on the first Wednesday's page of radio listings. I don't want to be picky but most units are Pacers or class 150s, but well done for the write up and relevant picture.
