Where would the day trips go?

This isn't an enthusiast problem, but an industry problem. If the industry didn't believe its own hype about introduction into service dates of new and refurbished stock we wouldn't have the timetabling meltdown.

I have been reliably informed that the first Northern Rail Class 195 DMU bodyshell arrives at the new assembly factory in Newport, Wales on Monday morning.

As long as the guard/OBS is able to get on to the platform at every stop. How else can a wheelchair passanger get on to the train at an unstaffed platform?

We are talking about Extra units here, so the the new stock to replace like for like unit numbers for both EMU's and DMU's could be higher because of replacement of Sprinter and maybe other diesel stock, plus the replacement for the Class 350/2 units.

What would happen to a passanger in a wheelchair on the platform?

I have spoken to a could of guards on SWT and they have said that their job role has been guaranteed for two years.

The problem is, if it's an unmanned station. Guards would step out of the train and see you, but now IF there is an OBS on the train, they may miss you because they only poke their head out of the door for a few seconds, not adequate to study the platform to see if their is a wheelchair...

I would strongly suggest either borrowing a wheelchair yourself or coming with me on a jouney. The idea of the guard being at the door at every stop is that they are able to see who gets on and off the train (including disabled passengers). Simply poking your head out for a few seconds...

It's a real shame that both Mr Gibbs cares so little for disabled people by wanting wise spread DOO.

If RMT were smart they would talk about how Northern guards were their with help and assurance after Manchester and how much worse the panic and worry would have been if they weren't around

I'm guessing the real delay to the CAF deal is Alstom, I'm guessing they would maintain the fleet, would they need a new depot or just use the Class 455 depot?
