    Does anyone know what happened to 1H13, the 1438 Queen St to Elgin this afternoon? It was a 'classic' HST with a Scotrail liveried power car, and I saw it limping in to Bishopbriggs over an hour late. It seems from RTT that the rest of the service was cancelled "due to a problem with the train".

    Favourite train class

    Has to be the original (unrefurbished) 303 and 311s. A revelation back in the 60s, after they got their electrics sorted out, brilliant front end design, comfortable sprung 3+2 bench seats, and a panoramic view forward. What's not to like? The refurbishment ruined them.

    Is the empty stock for the Caledonian sleeper sleeper propelled into the platform at Inverness?

    Many, many years ago, back in the 60s, I used to travel regularly by train to Inverness from Glasgow and then on to Kyle. My memory is that the train from the south always ran past the station to the north line, and then reversed back into the platforms. I don't remember a class 08 or similar...

    You are thinking of the Dornoch Bridge which was opened in 1991. There was a proposal to run the railway across the bridge as well as the road, but this never happened. The far north line loop via Lairg would almost certainly have closed had the rail bridge happened. A thread on the subject is...
