Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

The toc had the costs previously, now the dft have them.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

2017 was a franchise costs fell on the shoulders of the toc. We are now in the era of management contracts and funding is very different, even fairly small things need to be authorised by the dft. 1714164676 Training a new traction and a new method of operation are completely different things.

SWR Class 458 to be retained

The 442's had lots of route restrictions when they returned even though they had run all over the place historically when they were on the network. Thing change, infrastructure is added restrictions & subsequent checks are there for a reason.

    SWR Repaints and Refurbishments

Definitely not it's more, which is the least filthy.

    SWR Repaints and Refurbishments

I think the hardened commuters will. I have watched many get on and actively look for seats that aren't filthy in appearance.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Admittedly it's 3rd hand, but having spoken to a driver who is good friends with a driver who is driving the 701 regularly there are still many issues with them.

Tree on the line between Woking & Brookwood

There was a timetable a few years ago (think pre covid) that had a quite a number of up trains timetabled into 6 instead of 5 and it caused no end of wrong side door openings. There seemed to be no logic behind it. Exactly the same as me, always announce it. A quick pa is easier than the...

Tree on the line between Woking & Brookwood

Correct. Passenger egressed not once but twice! Certainly didn't help matters, along side that trees seemed to just keep falling over as soon as one was cleared another dropped just down the line.

So for almost 40 years the 455 has been a downgrade.

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Just a little airport down the road, and two major motorways. You'd be surprised.

SWR Class 458 to be retained

If you believe that things only get slippery in 'leafall' then you're sadly mistaken.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

Or there are issues that are still delaying the full introduction, be it staffing, faults or any other number of reasons. You seem to think that SWR should just use them whatever is the reason behind the delay. Obviously there is something stopping their introduction currently and no one here...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

But are they faults that need addressing when it comes to having a full fleet running all day everyday. That is probably more the question that needs answering. Some faults and associated company policies allow a train to run until it can be removed from service at a suitable location. If the...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway

There have been plenty of faults that occurred during the trips though, those issues are not taken into account of your reliability statistics. Also 2 return trips a day is far from intensive use. They barely get warmed up.

    Cycle Bag Searching at Stations

There is a sign at my home station next to the bike racks saying panniers must be left unlocked for inspection. The staff also have to perform a security check by walking the whole station every so many hours opening anything that could be used to hide a device and to check other things that...

What to wear: Shunter/maintenance team member interview

An employer can specify what it wants an employee to wear as part of its policies. If you don't want to wear it then you're free to leave to another employer. It's not an unreasonable request by them.

What to wear: Shunter/maintenance team member interview

Dress to impress always. Better to be overdressed than underdressed. When they can't decide between two candidates, the appearance of one might show a willingness the other didn't. When I had my first interviews and assessments on the railway as a shunter it was full suit everytime. The final...

    Another Landslip: Hassocks/Burgess Hill area

SIMplified BI Drectional Signalling is just one long section with a distant and a stop signal for the wrong direction and the maximum speed is lower than the speed in the normal direction. Regular bi directional is usually multiple signal sections for moves both ways usually of similar lengths...
