    Köln Hbf

But neither is intensly used esp when you consider a 3-5 minute stop is all that is needed. In the Hbf, you have a Turn around binding more capacity.

    Köln Hbf

As mentioned Cologne is one of the biggest bottle necks in Germany. It is run beyond capacity. There are plans to expand but the curve radius makes that difficult and DB seem reluctant to run more ICE via Köln Messe/Deutz only.

    The Cologne Connection

The ÖBB 1020 and 1018 were a result of the Anschluss. Both a Former DRG E94 and E18 but this is getting way off topic.

Inside European Sleeper’s turbulent first season of night trains

There are a number of sleeping cars certified for CD. DB City Night Line and many non Czech operators used to go there. I assume the problem is the lack of availability of extra sleeping cars. The market seems to be empty.

    German Rail in decline ?

In Germany its infrastructure in general that is underfunded. Motorways are in a poor state, digital infrastructure is lagging behind.

    German Rail in decline ?

charges of DB InfraGo (former DB Netze) for using the network are one of the highest in Europe. Furthermore there is hardly a line nowadays which is not dispruted by some sort of engineering works. As to the DeutschlandTicket, it does not affect DB's income as operators of regional trains are...

Although VRS and VRR does have an overlapping fare structure to Düsseldorf. As to ticket machines, regional authorities such as VRR tender out who sells regional tickets hence the confusion with DB and non DB machines.

    Katowice Trip Questions

not much changed on the Oswiciem route in 25 years then. I remember painfully slow EMUs and a daily Eurocity to Vienna considing of two ÖBB coaches (presumably joining another train en route).
