    Class 503 disposal

The cab of 29289 (up to the first set of sliding doors) survives at The Cab Yard at Cynheidre, Wales. Nothing on the Cab Yard website yet that I can see, but it was reported in the most recent Railways Illustrated.

    Class 503 disposal

A minor point, but Llynclys, despite the Welsh-sounding name, is (just) on the English side of the border, in Shropshire.

RMT reporting that Merseyrail have suspended off peak ticket sales from Liverpool Central/Moorfields - Aintree for Grand National weekend.

Some complaints on Twitter about this. For example:- £6 for a ticket to Orrell Park (normal price £2.40) is sharp practice in the extreme. And the reply from Merseyrail is, I think, an all-time great. Apparently the extra cost is for “entertainment”(!) Seriously, how does this fit in with...

Using day return on first departure after midnight

An Area D Railpass is £22.70 for a week so the discounted day return works out cheaper. A monthly pass (£79.50) would only be cheaper if making more than 25 return journeys in a month. Formby has a ticket vending machine so maybe try using that if the ticket office is difficult.

Merseyrail legacy fleet updates (Class 507/508)

Presumably this, 5Q88 from Crewe South Yard to Sims: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K04048/2024-04-10/detailed Picture posted on Mersey Railways 2.0 Facebook group shows 37800 running round at Crewe. It will be the units that moved from Birkenhead North to Crewe just before...

Merseyrail mandates that Trainline tickets must be printed out

Who is carrying out this audit? Office of Rail and Road, Rail Delivery Group, DfT? Or some other body?

Was on the 0851 from Hunts Cross, still with 003.

Does anyone know if 001 has had its graffiti cleaned off?

Merseyrail legacy fleet updates (Class 507/508)

001 has unfortunately suffered a graffiti attack. Hopefully it can be cleaned up asap. Source: https://x.com/downonthestour/status/1768964244614029450?s=61

If it helps, Seat61 recommends using the VBN FahrPlan app (transport authority for the Bremen area). Relevant extract from his page on German train travel below.

    Includes Hovercraft - Or Not?

£40.05 is the correct fare for an Off-Peak Return with Network Card discount from Gatwick Airport to Ryde Hoverport via Barnham, according to BRFares. What is the full itinerary you are shown - presumably train, then hovercraft, then walk from Hoverport to Esplanade?

Also not far from Seacombe Ferry Terminal is the Emergency Services Training Centre where those two derelict 508 vehicles can be seen in the yard outside.

    Merseyrail Class 777 introduction updates

A 777 has been bricked at Aintree. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/merseyrail-passengers-evacuated-after-brick-28695357 Looks like this was the affected train. https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C92230/2024-02-23/detailed

    Merseyrail Class 777 introduction updates

Did see battery 777142 at Liverpool Central this morning waiting to leave with the 0901 Ormskirk train. Unusual to see one in passenger service away from the Headbolt line. Whether that was planned or a late change due to the earlier Northern Line disruption I don't know.

    Class 503 disposal

It's a very rough estimate. Back in January 2020 HETT posted on the 503 page that they needed 5 Gold, 10 Silver and 25 Bronze subscriptions to cover the costs of storage and provide funds for restoration. That is 5x30 + 10x20 + 25x10 = 600. Don't do any restoration work and you can knock off...

    Class 503 disposal

Unfortunately the 503 is a victim of wibble-itis, a common condition in railway circles where armchair experts try to "help" by coming up with completely impractical ideas or just having a good old moan. Whenever the 503 people post something on their page, there is a flurry of comments saying...

    Merseyrail delay repay

There was another thread here recently pointing out that 20% offered by Merseyrail is not in line with NRCOT which states a minimum of 50% is payable for a delay of 60 minutes. The poster there was going to go to the Rail Ombudsman as Merseyrail were refusing to budge...
