Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

Missing a number from a JTC report is hardly the crime you’re making it out to be. Governance is meant to cover the high level, not the nitty gritty of a specific number. Things change very quickly, the acceptance could have been after the report was submitted etc. Good to see deliveries are...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

Part of it is to make some money back… it’s not a charity…

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

GNR cover most of the network going to the city centre or South Shields. Newcastle games are similar. Concerts are the same, especially at SOL. I cannot remember the peak vehicle requirement on Metro for just the core service but there really is a lot of stock to be able to provide this...

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Unfortunately it just doesn’t work as you are describing. At the end of the day if you run the same headway with the same number of vehicles you have the same capacity. Unless you are dealing with very localised flows, which isn’t the case for GNR or concerts on the system, you’re just moving...

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Sorry, my mistake I did mean for 3 unit 90m platforms. Same point stands. 90m platforms aren’t required on the Metro. Stations in tunnelled sections do however have space behind the head walls for platform extensions to 90m. It’s not designed out.

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

I doubt that the Metro will need 120m platforms until at least we start talking about the next fleet in about 40 years time. The system is nowhere near capacity or needing longer trains The old vehicles are so space inefficient it is painful. Current platform lengths are not an issue for the...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

Thanks for sharing. If I’m honest given it is September this was the programme I thought they would be working to, not all as worrying as it sounds!

Tyne & Wear Metro and Ferry: Best Ticket.

You clearly know nothing about the T&W Metro and don’t have to rely on the system. I worked there for several years and know these trains have been clapped out and ready to go since 2008. Cracked gearboxes, traction equipment designed in the 60s, obsolete parts and self manufacturing. As others...

Tyne & Wear Metro and Ferry: Best Ticket.

Trains are to transport people and these trains no longer function in being able to do this. They aren’t for enthusiasts.

Tyne & Wear Metro and Ferry: Best Ticket.

Given the Stadler trains aren’t in service I’m not surprised you didn’t see one!

    Manchester Metrolink

Local Link runs in this area 24/7. Is this any use? I always felt like Metrolink was overkill and probably had a high level of fare evasion. Definitely should be a bus at the minimum!

Recent report to NECA says first in service by autumn.

T&W Metro - Sam Fender and Pink Concerts

I mean, the Metro never has, and never was intended to cover its own operating cost. So by this logic we should just close it. It’s not all about direct farebox revenue, the wider economic benefits are poorly accounted for or appreciated.

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Struggling to keep up where we are talking about different things with us being spread out over a few threads! just seen this in the Nexus website for tomorrow: ”For Sam Fender fans (after the concert), if you’re travelling to Gateshead, South Tyneside or Sunderland, please use Gateshead...

Northern Concert Train Advice at Horwich Parkway

Hi, I’m hoping for a bit of advice relating to Northern train services from Horwich Parkway after a concert please :) I have family attending the Pink concert at University of Bolton stadium on the 7th June. Northern have a train at 2313 to Manchester which is the final train, with the 0013...

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

I imagine this must come down to a lack of staff and rolling stock? Really this should be quite a simple exercise of additional trains running mainly between Pelaw/Park Lane - Regent Centre/Benton, but if a core service can barely be put on, can they be expected to cope? Even then, surely with...

Will Tyne and Wear metro frequency be increasing once new units are in service?

This cut was around 15 years ago. I doubt there will be any official changes of the timetable on Network Rail infrastructure as this would need to fall in with Network Rail recasts which would mean paths couldn’t be changed until the winter (If they even could be). Even before COVID an...
