    Blackpool Trams News

You're testing my memory there, but I seem to remember that they did Talbot Road in two bits, split outside Sacred Heart so that they always had access via one access gate or another. 1713961035 Wednesday 12th June has been announced as opening day.

Yes, there are two lay-bys just for this, and weddings, etc. https://www.google.com/maps/@53.8192702,-3.0539052,3a,75y,24.76h,76.33t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sXHlCC8d1joikF3jZmrav5w!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu

    Blackpool Trams News

More signs of slow but steady progress yesterday as a PW team were cleaning all the compacted sand and grot from the unused bits of Talbot Road points and trackwork at North Pier and in Talbot Square. Probably not going to run a tram up this week is the latest story but "before the end of...

    Blackpool Trams News

The platform at North Station Tram Stop has been rewired. I've heard rumours of something going up next week, probably overnight, but there are still a few bits and bobs that need to be finished first. But we're pretty close at last....

    Blackpool Trams News

Still pencilled in, very lightly I suspect, for Easter. There has been quite a lot of work on the site, you need to remember that the tram extension is only part of what's happening. For instance, all the hoardings that have been up for most of the redevelopment have gone and been replaced by...

    Blackpool Trams News

The official line is still "By Easter 2024". The Holiday Inn site is looking less like a building site every day, although it is still a building site. The platforms were de-wired some time ago to make the building work easier, they still need rewiring. The subway is still a work in progress...

Blackpool North tram opening date ?

I'm not sure how much this moves the opening on, but the cladding work on the missing bit is now mostly done, some ground floor stuff needs doing and there is an odd small bit missing here and there, and the tower crane is being removed from site yesterday and today. That's got to be positive...

Blackpool North tram opening date ?

Going by the hotel this morning, there is definitely work going on on the cladding. Whether they are taking off existing cladding or installing new I'm not 100% sure but there looks to be some new cladding up on the hotel ground floor (rather than the, I guess, basement level where the subway is).

Blackpool North tram opening date ?

The word on the street is September at the earliest, possibly even early 2024. No work has been done on the cladding. The hotel or the subway underneath it can't be finished until that's done. The tram platform and hence the tramway can't open without either being finished. As to add-on...

Blackpool North tram opening date ?

According to the local rumour mill, and there's evidence to back it up, there is an issue with the cladding on the hotel. What can be said with complete certainty is that no cladding work has been done for several months and most of the sides above the tram stop are still unclad. One rumour...

Firstly, part of the old Wilko site is going to be car parking awaiting the next stage of the redevelopment of that area, but the site is immediately next to Talbot Road multi-story car park, the first multi-story car park in Britain, with over 500 spaces and Sainsbury has parking for a 250+)...

Passengers denied boarding at Blackpool North?

Yes, many times, although there are lots of people with walking sticks who don't ask for any help. If the train is in on time they will get them on the train before the doors are opened. If it's a tight turnaround, as many are, they will do their absolute best to get them on without delaying...

All the way to the new Talbot Gateway station, but I understand the southern platform only. The fact the Tory Spring Conference starts in town tomorrow might just suggest that a test run before a ministerial photo op possibly! The shell of the hotel is now pretty well complete although it is...

The above isn't actually a true representation of what has happened. Storm Arwen caused damage to the gable end of a building on the corner of Springfield Road and the Prom. This is what caused both the Prom and tramway to shut. On Sunday, contractors noticed that the roof of the Metropole...

    Strangest long distance through trains

There was a St Annes on Sea to Greenbank in the morning that came back as a Chester-Blackpool North in the evening peak for many years. For a couple of year in the late 80s/early 90s sort of time there was a 0700 (give or take) Blackpool South-Scarborough. I used to commute to Preston on it.

There were a couple of problems yesterday that caused the full suspension. There was a problem by the Pleasure Beach loop and a number of issues by Festival House caused Gynn Sq to Manchester Sq to be shut down at the same time. Apparently there weren't enough trams, or staff, north of the...

There is little point in putting ticket machines on the platforms. The Fylde Coast's unique combination on wind, rain, sun and sand mean that when they enquired about machines as part of the upgrade, no company would quote as they couldn't guarantee their machines would work reliably. Most...

Latest story is that High Street, the road between that and North Station closes this weekend for 6 months for the new underpass to go in. Overnight closures of Talbot Road are planned to start at the same time to do the overhead, sort out the traffic lights, signs, and any trivial bits and...

They have also uncovered the end of the tracks and started to lay the track mountings, although to be honest the ones I saw weren't actually fixed in place yet, but they are on site. I've been told that most of the tram ground work should be finished this week except in the location of the stop...
