Fallout for rail prosecutions from Post Office scandal

My twopence worth. As with so many things in life there is no correct way IMHO. CPS aren't going to even open a case file for a £30 avoided railfare let alone a lesser amount and going for a CCJ adds on costs and adding bailiffs into the mix adds even more cost. Can end up more that a current...

A query about buying rail tickets through apps

I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who are caught out by a ticketing irregularity who have bought their ticket using an app. The railway then digs out all their previous transactions to 'catch up with them'. Surely if they paid for their ticket at a ticket office or from a TVM...

Future of Ticket Office Consultations launched

For me the key question is what are the 12% of tickets currently sold at ticket offices? If they're all just 'this station to the big town/city' then a TVM should do. If they're all the more complicated, skills/knowledge based tickets then a TVM won't do. However, that 12% figure could be...

    Leaf blowing trains.

I think that the OP was asking if there was a better way of track cleaning not if it was necessary.

Did this Senior Conductor act inappropriately?

Clagmonster - I don't think that TOCs or Network Rail claim back delay minutes from offenders (not just fare evasion delays but also trespass, vandalism or bridge strikes(? on the last one!)). Usually the scrotes have no assets or income so charging them a few Grand is usually a waste of time.

Did this Senior Conductor act inappropriately?

LNWR and WMT Envoy ticket selling equipment includes a card reader which, through the phone or tablet, has a live link to the bank. If - once the card is presented - a 'declined' status is returned from the bank then that's that. There is no indication of why the decline was made and I always...

Passenger breaks law, then whines when she's punished

Re post #52 above - you are correct that we do not, as a rule, PF from card only stations on LM. However circumstances are taken into account and if someone says "I didn't buy a ticket because I just jumped on the train as I was late and didn't have time" then they will get a PF irrespective of...

London Midland stepping up ticket checks

Re Walsall line. Revenue Protection have worked the line three days this week and have blocked Walsall twice. More planned in coming week. We gave also worked Snow Hill lines multiple times and also blocked Kidderminster plus others this week We are - contrary to what may be said - very...

    Gave Wrong Address

I'd like to as it's schoolboy error stuff but don't want to give the bad guys any ideas!!

    Gave Wrong Address

I was recently in Magistrates Court (as the Revenue Protection Manager who had issued a Penalty Fare) where the recipient had given slightly incorrect details ans subsequently denied being on the train etc. Despite claiming that it was not him he was found guilty and fined £785 (including...

Bizarre case of mistaken identity leads to train fine court case

How did the court - or anybody else - know who the employer was? That is a level of detail which isn't recorded whenever I PF or interview somebody. If somebody had used his address then surely there would have been some correspondence to his address. If that address was not given then how...

    Penalty Fare money

The vast majority of the PF that I ever issue are for the £20. Out of that has to come the processing for the handling bureau/agency fee (together with our costs for handling cash, processing the credit/debit card payment assuming it doesn't bounce. That soaks up a big chunk - then I'd like a...
