Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

I know 5 car Pendolino don’t exist. The software won’t allow it! Anyway the unit nearly looked as fast as the 2x4 350, that passed Bushey on the up fast around the same time.

Progress on Avanti West Coast's 805/807s Hitachi AT300 sets

Could have sworn I saw one of these wizzing through Bushey on the down fast about 13:20 today. Could it have been or just a cut down 5 car Pendolino?

    Railway pension

Yes you are right. I think I meant to say that the schemes nominal retirement date for new recruits is 65. any Current employee will receive information from RPS that says what the nominal retirement date is (60 or 65). For some ex BR employees still actively employed without broken service it...

Euston station toilets in a disgusting state

It’s the main sewer. It’s quite small, and has struggled for the last 40 years when the number of fast food type catering outlets were expanded. The sewer struggles to cope. Also of course all the things that get flushed down into (that would not occur in a domestic environment) - cans - loaves...

Worst examples of BR era "vandalism"?

Yes it’s true the council wanted to turn the station and approach into a road and car park. I still think the better option was the one the good Doctor proposed.

Worst examples of BR era "vandalism"?

For me it had to be the closure of Blackpool Central station and retention of Blackpool North. A terrible decision and loss of a fine station. A second would be the closure if the new Woodhead tunnel. Retaining the route as a diesel haulage freight railway utilise the new tunnel would today have...

    London Overground line names announced

I don’t think they are going to replace every sign eg platform running in boards. Sure places like Willesden Junction might have Overground signage supplemented with new way finding signage. But for a century customers have managed to find the North London Line platforms from the DC ones. So I...

    Harrow and Wealdstone announcements

London Underground are the station operator - I suppose you could ask LNW to intervene as it’s their customers who could be confused by the announcements.

Do you have to touch in and out with a smart card season ticket.

I travel from a station without gates but oyster validators. My destination has gates. With my season I never tap in on the way to work and never tap out on my return. My smart season I simply use as a gate pass at the station with gates.

    Hattons is Closing Down

My last order arrived today from Hattons. Quick and efficient and well packaged as normal. It was only a circle of third radius Hornby settrack - will find a use for it somewhere - Sounds silly but felt I wanted to buy one last thing before it closed. A decade ago they had brilliant prices on...

Pay as you go for Manchester and Birmingham

not always automatic. Tesco Credit card on Apple Pay did not add the extra Clubcard points from using the credit card. But as you say it’s perfectly possible. The two schemes are using different technologies and of course the regional PTEs want to have control over their own schemes and rules...

'Via ...' tickets and additional permitted routes

The original journey planner using the electronic Routeing Guide considered this as a split journey, with two journey legs. One from origin to via point, working out all the permitted routes and applying all the RG rules. And then a second journey leg taking the via point as a pseudo origin...

Euston departure board to be moved

As an aside, on Monday I went for the 22:57 London Overground, it was not shown on the board at all, but arrived and departed without being advertised. Not so much a problem for me as I got the 23:09 and changed at Harrow. But I wondered if it was a glitch or a pricefure to maintain a right time...

    Inter available routes LU

I think you stand little chance of not having an awkward conversation. You would think it would be ok as it was a BR railwayup until privatisation. i am challenged every time when attempting to use the Bakerloo from Paddington to Harrow & Wealdstone even after showing an extract from the London...

Euston departure board to be moved

Slightly off point, but why is there no longer a Euston Summary board for LNR services as you exit the underground barriers? Useful if you normally expect to get your train from the Wood (8-11) so you take the passageway, only to find you now have to go back up to the concourse to platform 7 or 12.

How is it decided whether a station should be moved inside the TfL Travelcard/Oyster (or other PTE) area?

Travelcard and zone 6 predated privatisation. Bushey, Watford Junction (the 142 service is the inheritor of a LNWR bus service from before WW1), and Potters Bar among others were/are served by London Red buses. Potters Bar has a great big London Bus garage. All were outside the original...

13A sockets in carriages - What is the maximum current they can supply and how are they wired?

I am sure future buildings will only have USB 2 and USB C socketsat seats. With a locked off 3 pin sockets for maintenance use only. Misuse that inconveniences other customers is at level that does not make it worth taking away the “current“ 3 pin sockets.

West Midlands Trains (LNR route) Guards doing more ticket checks?

Not seen any ticket checks at all on my LNR trains. Guards have virtually given up doing PA announcements too. Even trains from platform 12 never have a ticket check.

    Euston overcrowding concerns

True, but platform occupation was less efficient at Euston in the past than today with multiple unit trains. Which basically roll in and with a turnaround should be ready to go straight out. With loco hauled stock the process took longer. Reducing platform utility. The Cobbler MK1 Stock would...
