Merseyrail to introduce Oyster-style ticketing from the Autumn

Those people can buy a paper ticket for cash at a booking office.

    Dangerous boarding procedures at Euston

@ModernRailways - there is now a departure board outside. I do however think the stupid new board layout is part of the problem.

DfT appoints Alex Hynes as Director General, Rail Services

For the record it will hold no pleasure if I'm right and I massively hope I am proven wrong. I just want the railway fixed.

    Dangerous boarding procedures at Euston

These are of course just 2/9 of the service. Fix the majority and those two won't matter.

Merseyrail to introduce Oyster-style ticketing from the Autumn

It's funny how Merseyrail always seems to be about 20 years in the past. Why not straight to contactless? Metrolink did it.

DfT appoints Alex Hynes as Director General, Rail Services

And at Northern he spent most of the time denying that there were problems and Tweeting about how wonderful things were.

    Dangerous boarding procedures at Euston

Can reservations be downloaded on final approach, and cleaning (rather than just litter picking which can be done on the go) be moved to the outer terminus? That just leaves stocking which only requires two doors, the staff only end one and the one at the buffet end of C. And could be done...

WCRC loses judicial review in High Court

Cars without seatbelts weren't fine. Lots of people died. I do remain of the view that it's tragic that we didn't adopt the standard UIC folding slam door with door blocking above 5km/h. The doors on the XP64 sets looked similar but opened the other way.

    Dangerous boarding procedures at Euston

That just shows a lot of people, not a dangerous crush? 1710775298 I'm not sure there is one. Indeed I can't think of anywhere outside the UK that does this stupid suppression thing and deals with those volumes. It is a bit like Luton Airport was before reserved seating.

    June 2024 Timetable Change

OTOH if you do encounter that rare revenue team don't put it past them trying a penalty fare...

    June 2024 Timetable Change

It won't be enforced to those in the know. It'll just mean it isn't shown on the displays at Marylebone so people don't crowd it out.

    Azuma seating

Just replacing the cushion with that used by TfW would be a big improvement. There's not a lot wrong with the frame.

DfT appoints Alex Hynes as Director General, Rail Services

Very much the opposite in my eyes. Hynes is the master of bluster and toxic positivity - what the role needs is someone who will openly and honestly admit the industry has massive problems and work to resolve them. He wasn't a good custodian of SercoNedNorthern, and I don't think he will be...

    GWR Waterloo and Euston

A friend has just messaged me to say he's just seen one pull into Euston P16.

    June 2024 Timetable Change

That reads like they are going entirely, as the data shows at present - i.e. a two hour gap in the peak.

Wizz Air question now the UK is not in the EU

Normally that happens at the gate. 1710700615 I'm almost certain that I had that on a Wizz flight back from Turkey on the first week of operation there, but then on checking again later on proper boarding passes were downloadable. I was initially a bit concerned that it was because they'd...

    Misleading from LNER

I think it's a given that anything that RDG says is unlikely to be in the passenger's interest.

Sites for Labour's New Towns that already have rail connections

How utterly, utterly ridiculous. Does Buchan or Gove live there perhaps? There are already houses between Tring Station and Tring, adding a few more won't affect anything substantially. You'd think they were proposing building a block of flats on top of Ivinghoe Beacon.

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

Yes, it appears so. For absolutely tiny numbers of people. The number of people who trust online sales but not online delivery is tiny.

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

I agree with that and would like to see progress towards a true e-ticketing approach (where the ticket is a record in a database and any sales channel can carry out any action on any booking), however that isn't where we are and maintaining ToD is very costly for vastly diminished numbers of users.
