    McGill's Buses - Renfrewshire & Inverclyde

I'd have said it was operational suitability of the Yutongs rather than price, as it does state in the RouteOne article. The Yutongs have a battery capacity of 422kwh, compared to the BYD/E200s having a battery capacity of 348kwh, so the Yutongs are likely to cover more mileage between charging...

    Jo Bamford completes Wrightbus takeover.

Photos of the prototype single decker in Ipswich are now appearing on Flickr (credit to the photographers). https://www.flickr.com/photos/dartspryte2018/50952169518/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/186424735@N03/50952044958/

    Bamford demonstrator?

It sounds like another of Go North East's Streetdecks for the X1.

    National Express service withdrawals?

There was this thread earlier in the year showing a few of the cancellations, but I seem to remember hearing about more. https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/more-national-express-destinations-axed.201219/

    National Express service withdrawals?

I'm struggling to find it now, but there was a list of service cuts quietly announced in February time, due to cease at the end of March but COVID got there first. The service from Whitehaven to London via the Lake District, Lancaster and Preston was one of the services cut.

    Go North East

6069 was never actually in Coaster livery. It had vinyls for Big Days Out put onto the Angel base livery while it was still on the Angel 21 service, and they only ever painted the front end blue when it moved to Coaster. It was reported elsewhere that the Coaster is having a PVR decrease so it...

    2nd Hand Unrepainted buses

Not quite sure where you got that from? First Greater Manchester most certainly still exists, operating from their Oldham depot. All of the First livery buses operated by GNW and Diamond have their own names on printed vinyl over the First names to reduce/remove any of the confusion from...

Opeators that still use Rollers blinds

The older systems at Lothian with a three track number blind are the now defunct Bright Tech. Newer ones are Mobitec. It's easier and nowadays cheaper to scrap off the roller blinds. The company I work for got a quote to have blinds printed for ex Lothian buses (Bright Tech system) and have the...

    Some interesting questions

Welcome to the forum. The cross-border services into Carlisle used to be operated by Western, who previously had their own depot in Carlisle. They were transferred to Stagecoach Cumberland in the early 90s (I don't have a confirmed date at hand myself), after Carlisle passed from Ribble to...

Isle of Man buses and coaches.

It works with the Isle of Wight because it is part of England, operating under the same traffic commissioner and DVSA systems, so the buses operating on the mainland are already registered to operate there. Anything going over to the Isle of Man would have to be registered/tested to be able to...

Should UK manufacturers develop more products for Continental Europe?

The 4m height restriction on vehicles will be a likely contributing factor to the lack of double deck buses, it makes exporting current British double deck buses nigh on impossible. The low height Enviro 400MMC sits at 4.2m, and the shaved down ultra low height E500 for America is 4.1m.

Should UK manufacturers develop more products for Continental Europe?

Yes, just the old Bonito/Soroco, Toro and Solera. The new Bonito, plugging the gap left by the Alero, was being imported from another mainland EU manufacturer, I can't remember who, but that wasn't a success. EVM later tried to market the same bus and also failed.

Should UK manufacturers develop more products for Continental Europe?

Just a side note, Optare didn't make the mini and midi coaches. They were built in Spain by Ferqui and had an Optare badge slapped on them upon arrival to the UK. Since Optare stopped importing them the range has been sold by Connaught PSV, retaining the Ferqui badging.

    Lothian Buses and ECB Discussion

The difference there is the E200 and BYD chassis' are both "midi" buses with the same width so they can use the same jigs/fibreglass domes. If an ADL bodied B8RLE does come into fruition it'd be built to the Volvo standard 2.55m width, the same as the E300 was, it could be entirely possible to...

Is it time to scrap ENTCS completely?

So we can put the argument over Cumbria concessions to bed.... I worked for an operator in Cumbria, and now work for an operator who claims commercially from 2 other authorities. The reimbursement rate in Cumbria IS 58% of the adult single fare for the journey taken. If the operator sells...

Towns without services from the Big 3

Northallerton in North Yorkshire. All bus services are operated by local independent operators (Abbotts, Hodgsons and Proctors) or by North Yorkshire County Council themselves. Thirsk and Ripon are both contenders too, services operated by Transdev or local independents.

Why haven't bus operators made their Contactless Tap On Tap Off systems work for Return Tickets yet?

The simple reason is the technology doesn't yet exist to do it. Ticket machines don't have a database lookup facility to check back against, so they have no way of knowing whether you're buying a return portion, the normal single, or whether it needs to validate an already purchased return...
