Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central Dec 3rd

That is a possibility. TFW aren't in dispute so are running normally. We do actually have that route on our backup list. We live on the Wirral so a connection to the Merseyrail network (also not in dispute) via Chester is workable. Not done the math on the connection timings yet Cheers Tom

Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central Dec 3rd

Another thing to consider is the fact that the Crewe route (Avanti) on Friday will be full. When we arrived at Glasgow, the queue for the return Liverpool service was massive, not all hoping to go to Liverpool though. It was listed on journeycheck as standing room only out of Glasgow. So...

Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central Dec 3rd

Well we've arrived safely in Glasgow just a couple of mins late. Job done, now to decide if we risk our return on the Friday strike day or bail a day early for a Thursday departure? Cheers Tom

Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central Dec 3rd

There have been a few that have terminated at Preston due to a "fault on the train". I've found the journey checker that lists all cancellations and service amendments, very handy indeed Cheers Tom

Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central Dec 3rd

Yep, we booked advanced tickets around 6 weeks ago. Going via Manchester is an option but I hate platforms 13/14 there. However, if our service is cancelled then that'll probably be our only option with our tickets being "Ap Tpe Only". I would imagine that would rule out using Northern to get to...

Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central Dec 3rd

As long as the service isn't cancelled we'll be happy, even if it does have a bit of a delay Cheers Tom

Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central Dec 3rd

So anytime up to departure but potentially as early as the previous evening? We're originally due to return on the strike day, we could take a chance on the Avanti service but I'd imagine they will be extremely busy. I think our best plan is to aim for the 12.04 Transpennine direct service on...

Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central Dec 3rd

That sounds like a reverse journey. We're going up to Glasgow. When would they know if our service needs to be cancelled? The night before or maybe 8am ish for a 10.12 departure? Thanks for your continued assistance Tom

Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central Dec 3rd

I didn't know that Northern went as far as Glasgow. We have advance tickets though so (as I understand it) we still need to travel on Transpennine on an action short of strike days? Cheers Tom

Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central Dec 3rd

As far as I know the only alternative with the advance tickets that we've got is another Transpennine service. The next direct service is 8 hours later. We could (probably would) get one to Manchester and change there. Cheers Tom

Liverpool Lime Street to Glasgow Central Dec 3rd

Greetings all. First off, apologies if this is posted in the wrong place. We're due to spend 5 nights in Glasgow starting this coming weekend. We're booked on Sunday's 10.12 Transpennine service from Liverpool Lime Street. I know that the action short of strike will affect some services but...

    Advance tickets and tube strike

Fingers crossed the two sides in the dispute will have sorted their differences out and our original route will still be available. Time will tell.... Tom

    Advance tickets and tube strike

It's normally not a problem for us, it's just unfortunate that on this occasion our trip falls on the same day as the proposed strike. I will make a note of City Thameslink for future reference though. Tom

    Advance tickets and tube strike

Found it and our tickets have "†vtwc &connectns" under Route but "bookdtrainonly" under Validity. Does the latter make any difference to our circumstances? Tom

    Advance tickets and tube strike

Bingo :D Thanks for that, I'll see if I can find that particular page. Tom

    Advance tickets and tube strike

Thanks for the replies. That's good to know. Whenever we've been down, we've normally just used the tube by default as it's the most convenient method of getting around. I just thought that with Thameslink being National Rail any journey taken as part of an advance ticket would need to be...

Hi all First time poster so please be gentle....... We've got a weekend away booked in Kingston starting 28th August and have advance tickets from Birkenhead Hamilton Square via Chester and Crewe to Euston. Once there we need to cross London on the tube to get to Vauxhall to catch our...
