Rail nationalisation: ideas, suggestions, predictions etc

I want nationalisation to re-introduce the safeguarded benefits once lost.

Disruption on HS1 due to signalling problems caused by flooding in the Thames Tunnel.

Maybe for the speculative discussion forum: 1. Reopen Ebbsfleet International for Eurostar services. 2. Build a connection from the North Kent Line to Ebbsfleet International for alternative connections to London. There’s already a junction on the running line just before Northfleet going...

GWML / Elizabeth line disruption due to OLE down near Paddington

As per my earlier post, EL 345 trains have portable GSMR’s in each cab in addition to the fixed terminals.

GWML / Elizabeth line disruption due to OLE down near Paddington

345’s have both a loud hailer and portable GSMR in each cab, amongst other emergency equipment.

Aslef strikes and OT ban called…

Does striking affect pension contributions in any way?

ETCS TB2 live today on GWML

From 12.40 today after the possession is lifted, trains will operate in level 2 from just east of Ealing Broadway to Stockley Junction though today, trains terminate at Ealing Broadway and don’t go to Heathrow. There are intermediate transition points at Southall and Hayes & Harlington for...

    Thameslink Core pantograph strike

I agree with that. We have a similar issue on the Liz line where ECS moves from Westbourne Park that continue ECS after Paddington are forced to stop at Paddington in order for the AR move to finalise at Paddington and not beyond. The signalling system is set in such a way that the train...

    Sandwich level crossing incident (26/09)

I keep asking myself, why would you not have overspeed loops and loops at the signal here, or indeed any crossing? Can never be too careful IMO.

    Elizabeth line reliability issues

We came out of Paddington P11 & 12 onto the mains at Portobello Jct / Ladbroke Grove. We went back to the Reliefs at Southall West. We only stopped at Ealing and Southall on the mains. I did a lot of waiting in both directions. Having the signals spaced much further apart doesn't help...

    Elizabeth line reliability issues

SN199 was blank so that and preceding signal had to be passed at danger. Very time consuming. No idea if fixed yet.

    Elizabeth line reliability issues

Freight is frequently put into loops and sidings (e.g. Slough, Iver, W. Drayton & Southall). And it’s not just routes through Acton. I’ve also seen them branch off at West Ealing and West Drayton and because they’re so long, they take up more than one road causing further delay.

    Lineside fire at Maidenhead (29/3/23)

Emergency special working in place on the Relief lines today between Maidenhead and Ruscombe Junction.

    Standing to drive trains

Stood up in 315’s and 317’s and can stand on 345’s when it drives itself. Makes a dull day that little bit brighter.

Acton main line wires down 13/3

NR have issued a BTET (blocked to electric traction) notice, advising IETs to run on diesel from Reading UFN. This is the Up main only and is in place between Airport Jct and Friars Jct.

Crossrail service pattern from May 2023

From what I’ve been told. Some Abbey Wood to T5’s are still around in the mornings on all days of the week, earlier stablings into Plumstead, reversing at Ladbroke Grove probably on the depot lines and diagrammed use of the Abbey Wood siding during the day.

Trivia: Trains that allow the driver or guard to open the doors instead of just releasing them.

345’s can. Driver will do this when emptying prior to an ECS move (aka Clear Train mode). It can also be done on the fly, where all doors open but then close after a period of inaction at each door.

Crossrail - Through Running confirmed for November

You can encounter a stop short in the platforms under certain conditions in ATO but the instruction thereafter is clear. With a MA you must proceed in Protected Manual in order to correctly line up the doors, or you risk overshooting or not stopping at all.

    Class 315 Farewell Event

Hopefully the journey will encompass other areas of the route much less used against the regular service. Liv St LO platforms perhaps, Temple Mills lines, 12a at Stratford and maybe the down avoiding line at the flyover or bi-di before Forest Gate to get to the Electrics. I know that a...
