First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

The terminus point has been moved to Bristol Parkway, however it continues to Bradley Stoke afterwards and does a 1 way-loop around Bradley Stoke North, and then back to Bristol Parkway before continuing to Whitchurch, if that makes sense. How would people know that the 73 still serves Bradley...

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Have the destination blinders changed for the 73 since the changes came into the effect, or have they stayed the same?
  3. LeylandLynx

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

    Any idea which ones?

35101 has just come out of the workshop at Leicester, so I'm told. But what could these mysterious 15 rumored vehicles from First West Yorkshire be?
  5. LeylandLynx

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Looks like it was taken down.

Wonder what the changes to the 8 itself will be. Guess we'll know for sure in the near future.

No, they're not up. Saw a video of a 'dead run' of the new 5 on YouTube.
  8. LeylandLynx

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

So it seems the new no. 5 will take the same route as the 8 to Christ Church from the City Centre, and then it turns around. Essentially a curtailed version of the 8.

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

We don't really have that much info to go on yet. There's probably some last minute changes we don't know about, too.

Muller Road Top just sounds like an odd place to terminate, especially when Southmead Hospital isn't far away. Oh well, we'll just have to wait for more details. If it's not circular then that would be pretty lame.

The details are rather sketchy at this point, though I do assume the 5 will be decker operated and not poopy Streetlites like the current 8.

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

I strongly suspect the 77 is circular, and completes the loop via Southmead Hospital. From what I heard, it sounds like the 36 is merging with the 8 to create effectively a "new" 5 service. This is just speculation, but I think the 8 might be rerouted through Redland via the old 9 route.

    West Country Independents

Timetables are up on their website now, by the way.
  14. LeylandLynx

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Is this new 77 a circular route? Both ends sound rather close together, they could easily make a circular route.
  15. LeylandLynx

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

Could it be a renumbering of the 24? Or an auxiliary to the 76?
  16. LeylandLynx

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

The 72 must be a tertiary service then at best.

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

All things being equal, frequency trumps pretty much everything else in generating demand, including speed, unless the frequency is already high. The m1 has both so it has a massive advantage. I don't know what the ridership-frequency elasticity is for the 73, but it's potentially pretty high...
  18. LeylandLynx

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

I think it would be sustainable, if done with care. Several years ago First suggested rerouting it down the M32 and through the Stoke Gifford Bypass (maybe it should go that way so it doesn't have to go under that dodgy bridge at Parkway).

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

I think it's nuts that the 74 has a frequency 3 buses per hour and the 73 only has a frequency of 2 buses per hour, despite the fact that the 73 is cross-city and the 74 is so similar but considerably shorter.

Reductions to services prior to an eventual withdrawal

Removing 100% of the service would obviously have an elasticity of 1.0. Well, maybe not quite as some of the ridership could just transfer to alternative services.
