    First Group: General Discussion

Shirt, tie and trousers always look smart. Polo shirts and shorts are very casual - delivery driver uniform!

Drivers are always the last to know. The first they know is when things are published on line. We know the same time as the public!

https://www.falmouthpacket.co.uk/news/23847948.hundreds-residents-fight-loss-100-year-old-fowey-bus-stop/ """ More than 500 people have signed a petition to save a bus stop that has been a vital part of life in a coastal town for more than a century. Residents are concerned that a new bus stop...

From what I see and hear, the Park and Ride at Truro running times were reduced, and layover times halved. This resulted in a reduction of 3 driver lines - a good saving. Unfortunately vehicles are running up to 20 minutes late in the peak hours, with some vehicles seen line astern (as seen with...

I've heard First have a performance manager. Seems their job is to look at why vehicles are running late, then make recommendations as to how to improve that. Either that manager isn't managing performance, or timings are not being adjusted to improve running. Two questions not being addressed -...

    |'m guessing as it is a tendered service, it will have to go out for retendering again.

There are several runs from Langarth to Tregurra in the 'rush hour' that leave full and overstanding (very late departures!). The T1's wouldn't cope with that loading. Likewise the return services wouldn't cope either. Tregurra frequently have full load on leaving, and pick up a full standing...

If the most appropriate vehicles are off road, awaiting repairs/servicing, then surely anything is better than cancelling that run! A shortage of engineers is not helping First.

A 40 driver was picking up/dropping passengers off at the Treliske Hospital Park and Ride stop yesterday. New driver perhaps and not familiar with the hospital stop arrangements.

Was there any news about making RTT 'ad free' with a subscription, or was that too much of of an administration hassle?

As a First driver, yes, some a better than others. We are all taught to a high standard, but thereafter...........

Everything gets quickly forgotten! Driver shortage. vehicle shortage; it's always a "just do it as a favour, it will be OK". Drivers come and go, as do managers, so everything changes fairly quickly.

Laughing! I only had type training on 1 vehicle type (The Tinners) in my 13 years. Everything else was - it's there - you are a driver. Go. To my question of "Will it fit" was always yes!

Not only Chivvy, but traffic in and around Newquay (plus occasionally around Falmouth as well). It used to be two runs, then become a continuous run. Always ran late, so was split again. New management in and it went back to one run. Of course it didn't work (it never did). They were advised it...

From what I've heard from drivers, First are not permitted to tree chop anymore. They have to report every branch to the Council who will attend. Tree lopping is at the bottom of the Council's priority list, so may, or may not, get done. However, it's good to blame First for not cutting branches!

Seem to remember there was a Dart (?) parked at Landsend for use as a waiting room. Not sure it was used as a ticket office.

First time visitors are always amazed at how close the bus is to the walls on entering/leaving the harbour. "Our drivers wouldn't be doing that" is a constant comment.

Various servicing routines maybe. Shortage of engineering personnel doesn't help.

Saw a full yellow open topper on a low loader around 9am today. Westbound on the A30 at Zelah. An out of service (hazard lights on) outside Marks & Spencer Hayle early afternoon.
