Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

Surely the logical thing to do is extend electrification to Bridgend , then the 231s if ever need a conversion to bi mode or tri-mode could operate much of the journey without using diesel. and the 800s would have a fairly highspeed route to Bridgend.

    Transport for Wales 769's

There were 2 using the MK3 stock - used to run about an hour apart during peak time.. I believe even a 3rd unit came down to swap out one of the other 37s (?) (head scratching moment)

Re-doubling of single track lines or reinstatement of passing loops

not particularly recent, - but I believe they added it some years back, -- unfortunately it's of little use as it doesn't go with the service pattern.

Re-doubling of single track lines or reinstatement of passing loops

I know of a couple in South Wales ~ The line around Gowerton was doubled. ~ Platform 8 added at Cardiff Central which included a new line. ~ A platform added at Cardiff Queen Street with a new line. ~ North of tondu was redoubled. ~ Tirphil passing loop added with new platform. I have a...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

Can we have elevated tram platforms at Central ? I guess that keeps them level with the existing platforms, could be incorporated into a remodelling of Central while not interfering with the road network ?

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

So there's the plan first to have the trams run to Cardiff Bay* and then stage eventually onto Cardiff Parkway -- given this will be the first test for on street running - anything that comes after regarding Llantrisant will have already had some idea with on Street trams (if the trams had to...

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

well if you're going as far as Llantrisant , you can go as far as Beddau - and from there - a mile or so up the track you have an alignment that could connect you right to Pontypridd. with trams it's somewhat easier. What you've read has been suggested a couple of times over the years, -- I...

Mark 1 Carriages information ~~ Rhymney valley mid to late 90s

Hey everyone, in the 90s while I was a child,. I travelled with my Nan to Ystrad Mynach from Cardiff. The carriage we got on was very wooden (I think the exterior was green but may'be not). The seats we sat on were wood without any covering and near the entrance door. One seat then a quarter of...

    ATW/Keolis Amey Wales stock shortages

Also from December, loco hauled 3 trains per day from Cardiff- holyhead.. will free up 175s .. I wouldn't be surprised if they are moved to the Chester-liverpool route, to free up the 150s for the valleys.. otherwise.. more than likely, they too will be short stocked.. since the pacers will be...

    ATW/Keolis Amey Wales stock shortages

from December 2019, Cardiff - Bridgend is supposed to have a full 4 services an hour on the mainline currently to my knowledge - 1x Swanline every 2 hours. 1x Maesteg 1x Manchester-Carmarthen/Milford Haven 1x London-Swansea meaning there is an additional 1 every 2 hours to fulfill. I...

Trivia: Stations that are overengineered for their current usage

I would add Clacton on Sea to that list.. and Severn tunnel Junction. 2 services per hour typically, -- although it is a junction.. I am surprised a single island platform wasn't engineered instead of the 2.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

DfT said it wasn't economical to extend to Swansea.. and for that matter, many places in England too. - While I would have liked the electrification to Swansea.. it doesn't reflect in passengers experience.. It would have been better to have reinvested the money, in upgrading the line between...

    ATW/Keolis Amey Wales stock shortages

The Chester - Liverpool service is just a temporary measure before being extended.. I do believe there will be an hourly service from one of the destinations on the Holyhead/Llandudno route. Also .. it will eventually be pushed hourly from Shrewsbury and 2 hourly from Cardiff

    ATW/Keolis Amey Wales stock shortages

those 153s from GWR could be really handy after the new Liverpool services start.. We're often already short formed in South Wales.. , the 769 hasn't been anywhere since it arrived.. and the 37 and its stock have been sat there for 2 weeks doing nothing... wondering when we'll get a delivery...

Future of Diesel traction in the future and will unelectrified lines have another fuel type?

some of those battery buses, with pantographs that charge at bus stops. Similar can be done with trains, you won't need diesel, just add short electrified areas. or electrified stations.. as long as the train can charge sufficiently while waiting there.. you're good to go. That's the plan for...

    ATW/Keolis Amey Wales stock shortages

Rumours are flying out from everywhere about 37s coming to the Rhymney valley once again from several sources. Nothing official but it's been said that the 150s PRM mods need to all be done before the newyear of 2020. Otherwise there will be issues with suitable PRM stock as the pacers are...

Proposed 'West Wales Parkway' Station Could Conflict With Swansea Metro Plans

Swansea bay should itself be more developed for tourism, The South Wales coast is beautiful in places but doesn't really have a "hot spot" for visitors, like that of Weston Super Mare.. or Brighton,, or even Llandudno. A tram line connecting Swansea Bay Railway Station/Port tennant - to...

Keolis/Amey to take over Wales and Borders

I think having a direct train to Liverpool from Cardiff is great progression and this also allows better connection at Chester if people want an additional train to link them up with services to the North Wales Coast from South Wales and the borders. I'm a little concerned about the lack of...
