    Preston/Lancaster pricing shenanigans

It is a divisible subsection though. The train stops at Preston on the way to Lancaster. Lancaster is cheaper, yet further away. Daft analogy time again - It's like buying your six cans of coke, drinking five, and then being told to buy another five because you didn't finish them.

    Preston/Lancaster pricing shenanigans

It's not apples and oranges if you take a step back back and look at what the passenger needs - to get from A to B on the same train in the same standard seat. That's the end goal.

    Preston/Lancaster pricing shenanigans

But the premium is travelling to Preston. It's cheaper to stay in the seat and go further up the line to Lancaster, and in the process deny someone from Preston a seat up to Glasgow. Pure and simple - Preston is busy, so we'll fleece them.

    Preston/Lancaster pricing shenanigans

Not really apples to oranges - it's the same train seat. I understand your point, but you can only book tickets 'live'. Why would I opt for a more expensive ticket when there's cheaper standard advance available? Agree to disagree? However, you are still able to get an off-peak fare on the...

But they didn't charge you more for not eating the wedges and GB!

    Preston/Lancaster pricing shenanigans

Mischief-making maybe, but I feel the whole situation is akin to going to a restaurant, ordering a set three-course meal, leaving before dessert, and being charged more for eating less.

    Preston/Lancaster pricing shenanigans

It's not a 'coincidence'. It's a decision by the rail firm to stop that train at Preston. And a decision by the same rail company to charge people more money for a shorter trip. When you get on the 16.30 Euston service to Glasgow, it's still the 16.30 Euston service to Glasgow at Preston, and...

    Preston/Lancaster pricing shenanigans

It is being penalised because we are still passing THROUGH the more expensive station. If I start from Lancaster, I still have a seat on the train at the far more expensive starting point of Preston.

    Preston/Lancaster pricing shenanigans

I get that, but this is a bit different though - I'm using the same train, for less time. Your analogy involves a different route and different flights.

    Preston/Lancaster pricing shenanigans

I don't want to dodge fares. I want to know why Virgin are charging me three times as much as people further along the line. I'm using less of their service, and getting penalised for it.

    Preston/Lancaster pricing shenanigans

The 17.57 from Euston to Lancaster on the West Coast Main Line on Thursday is £46.60. But if I book to get off at Preston on the same train - some 17 minutes and one stop earlier than Lancaster - I'm asked for £145. So, the same train, the same line, a shorter journey, yet triple the price...
