Bury & Rochdale are still served by cross boundary routes into 1974 Lancashire county, so they'll still have a valid place on that map.

Query on two old Manchester bus routes

In GMPTE days it ran as service 167 from Norden to Manchester, via Heywood and Cheetham Hill. First Manchester withdrew all but the weekday peak hour journeys in the mid 2000s, which these days run as 162 via Langley and Middleton by Diamond North West.

Unfortunately not, I was driving in opposite direction.

I saw three Evoras heading north on A74M on Thursday lunchtime. Looked like JMB Travel livery based on the old Lothian curves.

I suspect the original poster meant 2451 and 2452, which are ex-Lothian Volvo double deckers (not E400s), and join 2450.

    X bus route numbers

Number change dates from 1995 - Warrington Borough Transport (WBT) had introduced a retaliatory service 30X going to Chester Interchange, North Western renumbered theirs X30 at the next timetable change, extending to the Interchange from the Bus Station, with WBT later dropping the X suffix...

    TfGM Bus franchising

396 route last November - TfGM decided to reroute it away from Ashton, but it was changed at the last minute and an emergency contract put out for a replacement service 397. The local councillor involved is leader of Oldham Council and sits on GMCA transport committee. News report here...

The 62 currently has 25 mins at Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA), plus ample stand time at Otley, so this is not a dissimilar arrangement. *Mod note* Avoid the use of abbreviations or acronyms without defining them the first time you use them in each post. This is a requirement of forum rules.

What happened to route 000 for not in service?

Sorry to be picky, but it was "5A Wilderspool St. James' Church". That route variant didn't exist in any other context, unlike 6A, 7A, 8A, 44A etc down the same corridor, although nowadays the CAT 5A is Altrincham via Partington. Warrington also differed in that buses were "Not in service -...

Private plates on buses and coaches

J10 WBT - shame about the plastic seats on this Warrington NC/Dart but they were quickly replaced.

On the contrary, Rosso were an early adopter of Ticketer machines, played a large part helping that supplier get to grips with the complexities of cash-accountable operations (as opposed to exact-fare cash vault operators) - but this was before contactless was available as an option, so now...

    Trivia: Lost modern "classic" liveries

Ironically, the North Western colours appear to have been resurrected in a slightly more contemporary fashion by rival Warrington's Own Buses! (Red was always the traditional corpy colour, but primrose and blue are the rugby club colours, and were used for a while on their coaches.)

    Ipswich Buses

Yes, it might be possible to have the vehicles interwork at Manningtree and Colchester so they can take reliefs back at Ipswich :) Sorry, it's this heat. Wonder if it's possible to relieve both services with one bus - maybe even a school bus driver between morning and afternoon.

Just over the border in Yorkshire. It's only a little place - sadly not open during the route's daylight operating hours, otherwise it would have featured more in publicity over the years I'm sure!

You know your stuff Mr Wazoo - three river basins, a windfarm or two and an astronomy observatory - at less than an hour end-to-end, the 8 must be a contender in the bang-for-bucks stakes!

There was an X8 for a short time that came off at Heaton Park and down through Cheetham Hill but in my experience this is slower than Rochdale Road.
