    Multiple Working

153 behind a 170 going down the Lickey was always fun. Occasionally had a 150 behind a 170 on the evening peak that was non stop Bromsgrove.

    Bristol - Manchester service

I did see somewhere on here (ages ago) that northbound trains from Bristol towards BHM can accept whichever route is offered to them at Kings Norton, either Selly Oak or Camp Hill. Is this still the case?

Lichfield / Birmingham cross city line

Not on the X-City but not far from Birmingham my first house backed on to a railway line, slow speed with point work. I'd probably get max 8Tph, all diesel and as this was a while ago it was 150's, 180's, 170's, turbos, HST and the occasional 158. After about a month I had completely tuned out...

    Portsmouth Harbour-Cardiff Central GWR

This has probably been mentioned before, and I know they might not initially be cleared for the southern part of the route but 175's ran as 5 cars would be ideal for this route, better than a 165/6 and probably similar to a 158. GWR have experience with the 180's and I seem to remember they...

WMR Class 196 Build and Implementation

Does anyone know which weekday services on the Herefords are likely to produce a 196? Or is it very much down to the random unit generator?

It seems that Worcestershire Parkway is a success...

True, these are all very late at night for diversion route retention. That's said though there used to be stop boards on the platforms at Shrub Hill for VT 220/221 4/5 car. That does make more sense, but do TFW need additional route knowledge in to Birmingham, especially as it's Cardiff...

It seems that Worcestershire Parkway is a success...

Correct, the GWR Bristol stoppers come off at Abbotswood and join the Cotswold line at Norton. No access to Worcester if they made it to Parkway. That's a heck of a lot of route to learn and a long journey, CNM - WOS approx 30 mins, WOS-BMO 1hr. Added to the current Cheltenham -Cardiff and you...

    IET Clearances queries

Ah, there's me checking last Saturday https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/detailed/gb-nr:PMD/2023-08-26/0000-2359?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt&toc=GW

    IET Clearances queries

Did the IET's ever get cleared through to Pembroke Dock, I believe it was an issue with Narberth tunnel?

    GWR short train lengths

XC ran a 3 car 170 on a Bristol- Edinburgh this morning, swapped to a 4 car voyager at BHM https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:G59464/2023-07-16/detailed#allox_id=0

    Trivia: Bizarre services

From Great Malvern you used to be able to get to such exotic places as Grantham or Lincoln Through London Midland and into WMT era the last one back from New St to Worcester Friday only used to continue to Gloucester and then ECS back.

    TfW 175 shortages

The first time around they weren't great. I think the problem was with there only being 14 or so use was limited. They found a home on the Cotswolds though and I travelled on them daily for a few years before HST's wiped them out. Then when they came back the reliability was much better. GWR...

WMR Class 196 Build and Implementation

Having commuted for over 6 years to BHM on 170's but stopped in 2018 I managed to sit on a197 yesterday, it's OK, not brilliant, not awful I could get used to it. The 172/1 we ended up travelling on when the 197 failed was dire. If those units are staying I hope they get a refurb + tables

Humm got me thinking now. Blue seats, red grab handles, cup holders and rubber flooring?

WMR Class 196 Build and Implementation

And 005 has just gone pop on the 1650 ex BHM. Cab window interlock failure. Having sat on it for 15 minutes, observations are, nice interior, windows lined up with my table seat, table was very narrow compared to the 170 - wouldn't be comfortable for me to work on my laptop, no armrests . Doors...

WMR Class 196 Build and Implementation

Does anyone know what the diagrams are for Saturday Worcester - BHM. Keen to sample a 196 but also keen to avoid anything that might be a 2 car 172!

Un-user friendly railway: Wrongly branded trains

I've dived in late to this one obviously..... A generic national livery with interchangeable vinal decals to denote the operator should be part of future franchise bids, easier all round, stock doesn't need to be repainted when it moves operator. Win all round?

Un-user friendly railway: Wrongly branded trains

It was a good few years ago, late 2007 I caught a Cross Country service from Cardiff formed of a London Midland branded 170 with crew in Central Trains uniform wearing LM name badges. It wasn't a problem

Exceeding maximum line speed on LNER

The only place I can think of would be after Kings Norton towards Bromsgrove going south on the fasts.

Just seen it go past Henwick on 1V27 so it survived!
