Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

One thing that is worth noting is now the rest of the depot has opened, there is theoretically a lot more free space to shunt about, so while the maintenance roads are still a pain to get trains in and out of, it shouldn’t be a case of having to constantly shunt trains about to get them in there.

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

It was mass public, more than 23000 people took part, mostly done online I believe due to covid. The base point here is that there are only slightly less seats than there are now, and quite frankly it seems rather ridiculous to have this fantastic new fleet, when it does eventually come into...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

Honestly give it a rest about the seating layout. There are literally a few less seats, and what it does enable is better use of the space during peak times, when inevitably more passengers should use the service due to increased reliability. During day there will be more than enough seats. No...

Role of on board staff on Merseyrail trains and associated issues (e.g. ticket selling/checking)

Same should apply to the Tyne and Wear Metro then. However for both instances I’d assume money would be a massive sticking point. Levelling up remember…

    Station taken out by yobs

Arguably worse. If the groups of kids are prepared to sit on old 40 year old metro cars with no bells and whistles, they’ll be beside themselves when USB, air conditioning and wifi turns up.

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

It’s worth remembering when comparing the two, that TfL and indeed the south gets far more funding than Nexus and the North ever will. Staffed stations are simply not an option, however I do wonder with the introduction of the new trains whether staff may be introduced on trains, the current...

Tyne & Wear metro potential extension to Washington study.

Would mainline providers actually want to use that though except for an occasional diversionary route? I often think with all these extensions and reopening whether passenger numbers are generally considered or whether they just hope for the best, the Northumberland Line being a prime example of...

Tyne & Wear metro potential extension to Washington study.

I wonder if the leamside section would come under control from Nexus and Metro rather than NwR as far as South Hylton. The difference is that between Pelaw and Sunderland it’s shared, however if this leamside loop was to open surely that wouldn’t be shared? So what would be the purpose/need for...

Different Driver Depot, Route and Traction cards

Anyone know what the duty content of LNER Newcastle is like? I don’t mean routes signed off. I mean like actual content of the duty. Like do you take a train to Edinburgh, have a break, then back to Newcastle etc. Just curious!

    LNER Newcastle duty content

Just a curiosity question after travelling a few times over the last few weeks. What’s the usual duty content of drivers at Newcastle? I’m assuming drivers are signed off up to Edinburgh and down to kings cross?

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

This may seem a basic question and apologies if it’s already been asked but surely signal SY31 being at red meant there was at least a single yellow before this signal, if not a double yellow proceeding that depending on signalling around that area?

Collision and derailment near Salisbury (Fisherton Tunnel) 31/10/21

Just out of interest what speed should the approaching train have been going? The 159 was coming across the junction, yes?

    Lorry driver recruitment crisis

I don’t understand why the government can’t provide some sort of direct funding for the courses, if they don’t do so already. Surely it would be a good idea for student finance to become applicable to this in the short term. If the same people were applying for an open university course for...

Sandilands Tram Crash - An Accident

Does tramlink not have speed control magnets akin to a Moorgate system? I’m perplexed as to why for such a massive speed restriction one wasn’t put in place.

    T+W Metro Signal 727

    This is correct.

    Pelaw - Bede line

Whether it helps or not in the future would be decided by whether or not the bidirectional signalling is kept, and I cannot remember from the plans whether that is the case.
  18. R

    Pelaw - Bede line

I would expect the signalling would have to go to at least three aspect, if not four.

T & W Metro reducing services on 29 Nov. Not enough drivers!!

Why do you believe it isn't worth as much? Purely because there is less driving distance involved?

Tyne and Wear Metro - industrial action (overtime ban)

Exactly which is part of the reason why training takes 6 months and not just 11 weeks.
